Your Opportunity:

Exciting opportunity to work at Full Scope of Practice on a busy Neuro/Geriatric Inpatients Unit. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of a health care team, collaborating on the delivery of care to meet the needs of patients in an acute setting. This position is a great opportunity to work at full scope of practice, and to develop a broad knowledge base and a solid Nursing foundation. You will have the unique opportunity to work in a collaborative practice model (CO-ACT). Collaborative practice is defined as care providers working together to contribute their knowledge, skills and abilities to patient care in a process of continuous communication and shared decision-making among patients/families and all of the care providers who are involved in a patient’s care to achieve outcomes that could not have been achieved by health care providers working either alone or in parallel. The LPN will work with the RN and HCA as a team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care of patients.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of a practical nursing education program. Current successful completion of a BCLS program is required. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills required. Demonstrated strong critical thinking skills, within scope of practice, including clinical Judgement and problem solving skills. Must be organized, motivated and self-directed. Ability to function effectively in a fast paced changing environment required. Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment required. Must be able to assist patients with mobility problems.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous medicine/neuro/geriatric experience preferred. CoAct training and experience would be asset.
