The Legal Administrative Assistant provides general support to the Ottawa office and acts as the liaison with the University of Ottawa Law Clinic.About The RoleUnder the guidance of the Director of Operations, the Legal Administrative Assistant will support a team of litigators in Ottawa, and across Canada when needed. You will provide specific guidance to Program team staff and carry out a variety of day-to-day functions to assist staff lawyers with their everyday practice management. You will also be responsible for supporting the Ottawa office administratively.As a key member of our programs team, you will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring smooth operations of the Ottawa office including management of facilities, mail, equipment, and office supplies.
  • Litigation support including drafting legal documents, serving, filing, and submitting court and tribunal filings.
  • Performing administrative duties for the University of Ottawa clinic classes.
  • Record keeping including maintaining litigation records, library and filing systems.
  • Coordinate people and projects including summer and articling students, program and office communications

  • Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
  • 2 years of direct experience in a legal environment as a Clerk or Legal Administrative Assistant, including experience in drafting court documents and assisting with court procedures (serving, filing).
  • Direct experience running an office, preferably in a legal/law office; general office administration experience.
  • Appointment as a Commissioner or willingness to become a Commissioner for taking affidavits and declarations.
  • Professional written and verbal communication in English (French is an asset)
