New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities.

The Lead Teacher is responsible for the overall coordination/administration of Youth and Adult Classrooms and oversees the processing of credits. This includes providing support and supervision to classroom staff; ongoing curriculum review; assessment of students’ skill level; registering all students and requesting cumulative student record files; signing off on credits earned; and delivering classroom instruction/teaching.

Job Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Education administration
  • Classroom instruction/teaching responsibilities
  • Curriculum and lesson planning
  • Assessment and intervention
  • Staffing and supervision

The ideal candidate will possess qualifications that include:

  • Bachelor of Education degree (B.Ed.), with a valid Manitoba Teacher’s Certificate.
  • Three (3) years’ work experience in providing modified/alternative classroom instruction for youth and adults.
  • Previous work experience with education administration is an asset, including experience with Education Information System (EIS) database software.
  • Demonstrated technical acumen in a variety of computer applications, including experience with or understanding of school-based technologies.
  • Experienced with integrating Indigenous culture and land-based teachings into curriculum.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous teachings, culture, and history including participating in cultural programming alongside students.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in the issues and supports related to trauma-informed perspectives, addictions, harm reduction strategies, and mental health would be considered an asset.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR, Mental Health First Aid, NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills) certifications would be considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

The salary range for this 35-hour per week, full-time position is $30.02 to $40.96 per hour (equivalent to $54,636 to $74,547 per annum), dependent upon education and/or experience of the

successful candidate. A full benefits package (which include Health and Dental Benefits, Long Term Disability Benefits, and a Pension Plan) is provided to regular full-time staff.

The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record, Child Abuse Registry, Adult Abuse Registry, and Prior Contact Checks.
