Summary:

The Lab Technician is responsible for performing daily quality control tasks including measurements, calibration, maintenance, and document entry. They also support the development of new products. The Lab Technician will receive guidance from, and execute tasks assigned by, the Assistant Lab Manager to support these activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform laboratory tests to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations.
  • Carry out routine tasks accurately and follow strict methodologies to carry out analyses.
  • Prepare specimens, reagents, and samples.
  • Perform standard quality control testing on incoming samples.
  • Maintain and operate laboratory equipment (i.e. pH meter, balances, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, FTIR).
  • Preparation and quality control testing of client requested chemical samples.
  • Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced.
  • Record, compile and sometimes interpret results to present to senior colleagues.
  • Clean laboratory glassware.
  • Execute tests according to standard operating procedures.
  • File and organize lab-related paperwork.
  • Perform mathematical calculations and compose technical reports based on test results.
  • Follow and ensure strict safety procedures and safety checks.
  • Set up and conduct chemical experiments, tests and analyses.
  • Assist in the design and execution of experimental setups.
  • Assist in developing and conducting sampling and analysis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to maintain and calibrate technical equipment.
  • Flexibility to work with and provide support for cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and collaborate across cross-functional teams.
  • Time management skills to keep ahead of administrative tasks in various areas.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook.
  • A collaborative individual who excels in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail.

Experience/Education

  • 1-3 years of experience in a chemical laboratory environment.
  • B.Sc. or laboratory technician diploma in a related field.

Working Conditions

  • No travel required for this role
  • Ability to lift up to 10kg
  • Ability to work shift work to cover 7-day workweeks.
  • Ability to work in an office and laboratory environment.
