About the Calgary Stampede!

The Calgary Stampede celebrates the people, the animals, the land, the traditions and the values that make up the unique spirit of the west. The Calgary Stampede contributes to the quality of life in Calgary and southern Alberta through our world-renowned Stampede, year-round facilities, western events and several youth and agriculture programs. Exemplifying the theme We’re Greatest Together, we are a volunteer-supported, not-for-profit community organization that preserves and celebrates our western heritage, cultures and community spirit. All revenue is reinvested into Calgary Stampede programs and facilities.

Position Summary

The Agriculture & Western Events Media Committee is looking to add up to 4 dynamic, skilled and enthusiastic volunteers to join our Social Media Subcommittee. We celebrate western heritage by sharing stories about the Calgary Stampede’s Agriculture and Western Events Programming. Our mission is to strategically use social and traditional media to promote the Calgary Stampede, strengthen urban and rural connections, and inspire people to think critically about the importance of agriculture and western events.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this role may include:

  • Develop and curate engaging content for the committee’s social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)
  • Assist in the planning and execution of a results-driven social media strategy for the committee’s social media channels
  • Collaborate with AWEM Committee members, Calgary Stampede Agriculture Committees and the Calgary Stampede Corporate Communications Team in the creation and editing of written, video and photo content
  • Participate in AWEM Social Media Subcommittee meetings and assist in the creation and execution of a monthly content calendar
  • Act in a liaison role by collecting stories and content ideas from AWEM Committee members, Calgary Stampede Agriculture Committees, Industry leaders and the Calgary Stampede Corporate Communications Department
  • Maintain a unified brand voice across different social media channels while adhering to a set of committee social media guidelines
  • Interact with users and respond to social media messages, inquiries, and comments
  • Attend Calgary Stampede sanctioned events throughout the calendar year and produce live social media content
  • Review analytics and assist Social Media Subcommittee Chair in creating reports on key metrics
  • Monitor social media channels for industry events and trends

Time Commitment

  • The time commitment for this position is approximately 5-10 hours per month in addition to;
  • Four committee meetings per year (60 to 90 minutes in length)
  • Four to six sub-committee meetings per year
  • Minimum of three volunteer days during the 10 Days of the Stampede
  • Minimum of one volunteer day for a non-Stampede 10-day event

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in social media management and content creation- in a volunteer and/or professional capacity
  • Passion for social media and proficiency with major social media platforms and social media management tools
