The Vice President of Operations will take a hands-on approach to lead and oversee our Production, Maintenance, and Facilities teams within our Packaging Services Business Unit. Emphasizing OTIF (On Time In Full) and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), this role will track and optimize KPIs for peak productivity and efficiency. Collaboration with our Leadership Team (Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, Business Development, Finance, Human Resources) is essential to align disciplines, streamline workflows, and deliver efficient, high-quality output to our customers.

Here are some of the different activities you’ll be asked to do:

HEALTH & SAFETY

  • Ensure the compliance of all the Health & Safety Management System policies and procedures, promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • Lead by example, fostering safe work practices to achieve zero work-related injuries or accidents.
  • Maintain a strong production floor presence during daily visits to the plant.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

  • Uphold the Jones Quality Management System, staying audit-ready at all times.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance leadership to address quality issues and ensure compliance with cGMP standards.
  • Liaise with internal teams to ensure optimal processes and procedures are implemented including CAPAs.
  • Champion Lean principles, emphasizing quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

LEADERSHIP & OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS

  • Develop, track, and analyze KPIs to enhance On Time In Full (OTIF) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Partner with the SVP and Leadership Team to align KPIs with business strategy.
  • Ensure robust preventative maintenance program and facilitate equipment troubleshooting cross-training.
  • Manage and develop area budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, optimizing cost, quality, delivery, and customer satisfaction.
  • Drive communication across all levels, engaging team members in achieving business goals.
  • Oversee daily operations, including production, facilities management, technical services, and mechanical services.
  • Lead resource planning, organizational development, and regulatory inspections.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Services on equipment acquisition and project implementation.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives for expanding capabilities and improving the S&OP process.
  • Engage with customers and industry experts to adopt best practices.
  • Embrace diverse responsibilities and special projects as directed by leadership.

What you’ll bring:

  • A Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree. Non-Canadian degrees must be equivalent evaluated by a valid Canadian Institution.
  • 5-8 years of strategic senior leadership experience in Operations encompassing muliple disciplines inlcuding production, maintenance and facilities, planning, capacity analyis and financial management
  • Minimum 15 years of overall leadership experience within a regulated packaging/food/pharmaceutical environment.
  • Formal training or professional certification in Lean Six Sigma fundamentals (an asset).
  • Extensive knowledge of current progressive manufacturing practices within a pharmaceutical or food environment; solid understanding/familiarity of cGMP.
  • Experience interfacing with government regulatory bodies such as Health Canada, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other regulatory bodies.
  • A decisive leader who brings evidence of a collaborative and consultative leadership approach – compelling and persuasive ability to engage workforces and lead positively through change.
  • An excellent listener and facilitator; open, honest, and empathetic.
  • A strong communicator with exceptional influencing skills and the ability to work with people at all levels with ease.
  • Solid understanding and proven application of continuous improvement tools with a passion for success.
  • Excellent planning and resource allocation ability.
  • Must be highly detail oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Strong project management capability across multiple disciplines and functions.
  • Strong inventory planning and management skills.
  • Ability to create and adapt systems and ways of working to meet evolving market needs.
  • Ability to utilize an ERP system to maximize strategic advantages for the business.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
