ROLE:
The Traffic Control Supervisor will be working on Spread 5A of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project (TMEP) and will be based out of Kamloops and/or Merritt BC. This position reports to the Traffic Control Manager. The Traffic Control Supervisor will oversee traffic control personnel (TCPr) and is responsible for supporting and managing to site specific Traffic Control Plans (TCPs) and the overall Traffic Management Plan.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversees traffic control operations, ensuring traffic control measures are executed in accordance with site specific TCPs
  • Ensures compliance with Part 18 of WorkSafeBC’s Occupational Health and Safety Regulations regarding supervision of TCPr’s in work zones
  • Organizes and directs the work of TCPr crews
  • Checks, maintains, and manages movement of signs as required
  • Documents daily traffic control and identifies changes in the TCP or logbook
  • Reports traffic concerns to the Traffic Control Manager
  • Ensures required traffic control devices and procedures are in place before the work starts and are removed when they are no longer required (Part 18.4 of WorkSafeBC’s Occupational Health and Safety Regulation)
  • Ensures any person assigned to be a TCPr is adequately trained in a manner acceptable to WorkSafeBC and performs effectively in accordance with the traffic control arrangement and procedures for the work (Part 18.4 of WorkSafeBC’s Occupation Health and Safety Regulation)
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities at the site level to promote safety and assist to resolve any issues of non-compliance

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications & Experience
  • Prior experience in a traffic supervisory role
  • Knowledge of Federal, Provincial, and Municipal Traffic regulations
  • Knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations as they pertain to traffic control
  • ATSSA certification
  • Proficient and professional communication skills; verbal and written
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude in high pressure settings.
  • Demonstrated experience managing crews
  • Experience implementing traffic control measures, including lane closures, road closures, median crossovers.
  • Experience with implementing dynamic message boards, arrow boards, SLAT on high speed, high volume roadways and municipal/City roadways.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Understanding of the oil and gas pipeline construction industry.
  • Ability to effectively work in a team based environment
  • Ability to work in a dynamic work environment
  • Ability to represent the Company in front of the Client and the local community in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to organize, direct and manage the work of multiple crews
  • Ability to read and understand relevant documentation pertaining the successful and safe completion of each project (legislation and other industry specific standards/practices).

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position will be working on the Trans Mountain Expansion Project (TMEP) located in the Kamloops Urban Area and/or Merritt BC for the various construction stages. The schedule will be Monday to Saturday, 12 hours per day. Accommodations or an Accommodations allowance is provided for those greater than 80kms from the project location.
