POSITION TITLE: Telecommunications Engineer

Atlantic XL are looking for a creative analytical thinker to join our engineering team for a full-time opportunity in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the design, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting communications equipment.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

This position reports to the Engineering Lead.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Interpret client needs to explore, analyze, and innovate cost effective design concepts.
  • Complete detailed technical analysis and review of solutions (including, but not limited to, drawings, specifications, design studies and technical reports etc.) to verify conformity with project design criteria.
  • Be a technical expert reference in discussions with clients and suppliers and respond to technical queries related to design criteria.
  • Assist in the installation and implementation of equipment following client approved documentation including design and construction documents, inspection plans, procedures, and checklists.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, technical specifications, drawings and installation and commissioning procedures as defined in workpacks, including inspection and test plans.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement to all aspects of performance (safety, environment, cost, schedule, quality, operations, reliability) with the client.
  • Maintain detailed records of work, according to company policies and procedures.
  • Obtain vendor quotes and compile bill of materials based on client specifications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Graduate of a recognized Electrical Engineering program with a B. Eng. or higher.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) registered to practice by PEGNL in the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador or eligible to be registered.

Experience

  • Minimum 6+ years in electrical engineering. Ideally having focused in the areas of communications and/or digitalization.
  • Experience with Fiber Optic Communications, Satellite Communications, Microwave Communications, LTE Networks, and other Wireless Networks. LAN/Networking experience would be an asset.
  • Prior oil & gas industry experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Good knowledge of relevant engineering principles, standards and regulations relating to design, construction, and safety standards in Newfoundland & Labrador.
  • Strong background with resolution of technical issues during project planning and execution phases.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, CAD skills would be an asset.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work offshore as required.
  • Must be able to travel for site-based work.
  • Hold a valid Canadian driver’s license with a good driving record.
