This 110-year old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of approximately $58 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams: the 15 day annual summer Fair which averages 800,000 guests each year, Playland amusement park which welcomes 375,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, year-round events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance. The Systems Administrator will work alongside our Information Technology Team and report to the Director, Information Technology. They work in a generalist capacity and assist with various IT Department functions, including but not limited to, overseeing the virtual and physical network environment, updating and maintaining computer systems and providing help desk support. They will use best practices to ensure all information technology systems in place can be used optimally and effectively.

What will you do this year?*

The duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes
  • Maintain server, storage, desktops, laptops, thin clients, and POS terminals
  • Support, monitor, test, & troubleshoot Office 365, Intune, SolarWinds, MS Servers, Horizon, ESXi, Nimble, Datto etc.
  • Maintain corporate storage systems and perform and manage system backups and recovery.
  • Lead desktop and help desk support efforts, ensuring all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions
  • Install, configure & maintain applications/software; perform necessary upgrades to the operating systems, including researching and installing patches, security updates, and service packs
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrading IT infrastructure
  • Research, evaluate, recommend, & implement latest technology trends
  • Prepare and anticipate future system needs and assist with the design of systems plans
  • Prepare documentation for system inventory, configuration, and procedures
  • Maintain license and warranty of IT inventory
  • Oversee database performance, capacity, and storage planning
  • Provide on-call services during peak season, events and/or during upgrades or emergencies
  • Provide help desk support as required (e.g., support thin client technology, virtual desktops, and automated updates)
  • Perform other relevant duties as directed by the Director, Information Technology

What else?*

  • Completion of post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of relevant experience providing technical support
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and be able to provide up-to-date Driver’s abstract confirming a clean driving record
  • Extensive experience with Office 365, Intune, VMware ESXi, Horizon, Datto, etc.
  • Proficient with Windows Server, Windows RDS/VDI, and SQL
  • Previous experience with Cisco and/or Microsoft certifications is considered an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills in order to communicate effectively with internal and external clients
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment
  • Must be available for on-call schedule as required (For example, during the annual Fair, events and for upgrades and emergencies)
  • Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check
