Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT
With minimal supervision, the Student Employment Marketing Officer plans, initiates and performs a variety of tasks to support the operational, marketing, communications and events functions of the Applied Learning, Co-operative Education & Career Services department.
The position builds awareness and relationships with internal and external stakeholders and promotes department services and events. The position completes a wide variety of duties associated with events coordination and marketing such as publications, advertising, public relations, social media, and promotions. The marketing officer maintains a strong working relationship with college’s communication and information technology departments to support and ensure marketing alignment.
The position may be required to work at either campus as well as occasional evenings or weekends.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Liaising with the College’s communication and marketing department, creates and executes an annual departmental marketing plan to promote departmental activities, ensuring alignment with the college’s overarching strategic marketing and communicants plan and policies;
  • Ensures departmental marketing material produced and distributed throughout the year demonstrates quality, consistency, and accuracy, aligning with institutional brand guidelines, and is distributed to target audiences efficiently and effectively. This includes providing recommendations of marketing and event budget requirements, working within an identified budget, and ongoing monitoring and tracking related budget and cost centres, and keeping supervisor apprised of any associated/unexpected costs;
  • Organize, coordinate and/or lead department events, such as orientation, information sessions, seminars, workshops, education/career fairs, college-wide/cross-departmental events, awards and ceremonies, as well as other multi-task projects. This may include but is not limited to preparation of event materials; planning and booking venue & hospitality, photography & other services; registration activities; and other administrative/clerical tasks;
  • Maintains department web and social media presence, recommends and/or assists in changes, design, and content within the college’s overarching brand guidelines, as appropriate to stakeholder and target audiences;
  • Develops, updates, and maintains a variety of internal publications/marketing material as well as externally focused materials, print and digital, for department, prospective or new employer partners and students.
  • Uses various existing and emerging technical and software tools as appropriate to develop, evaluate, and complete analyses of print, and digital materials;
  • Assists the student employment facilitator(s) to plan, organize, document, market, implement, and evaluate various student or employer oriented activities, including capturing and reporting data, creating and analyzing surveys;
  • Liaises with schools and other college departments/services to plan and produce various promotional events and publications and to organize and execute a wide range of activities to support departmental marketing and communication objectives. As required, follows up with supervisor on new initiatives, sensitive or unusual issues or concerns to ensure integration of activities with others within and outside the department;
  • Promotes department and/or college services and activities at external functions, at the request of or as directed by supervisor or Director;
  • Liaises with faculty, staff, students, professional associations and other external stakeholders to support and promote career related services and activities;
  • Participates on appropriate college or department committees;
  • Works with other department colleagues as needed or directed, especially during peak periods, for team collaboration, to ensure department objectives and deadlines are achieved;
  • Performs other related duties similar in scope and complexity.

Qualifications
A diploma in Business Administration, Marketing or Graphic Design, or related field and four years of progressively relevant experience in marketing, communications, and of which one year is within a post-secondary environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proven knowledge of marketing theory and practices, as well as solid ability to develop print and digital marketing material;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to relate well, and work effectively with the general public, students, faculty and the broader college community;
  • Demonstrated ability to work quickly and accurately and perform well under pressure, multi-task on multiple projects, meet deadlines, and recognize and adapt to changing priorities;
  • Demonstrated experience with databases, specialized software applications as well as printing and publishing processes and MS Office suite;
  • Demonstrated proficiency with web publication software (Drupal, Dreamweaver; HTML/CSS coding), and knowledge and understanding of web design principles and best practices;
  • Basic bookkeeping and budget management skills.
  • Demonstrated administrative support skills with the ability to work independently as well as in a team, including taking initiative, problem solving, and make independent decisions.
