The Valuations Unit is responsible for the development of methodologies, the production and validation of premium rates, insurable values, benchmark production Units and commodity prices. In addition, this Unit evaluates the accuracy of the values they establish and the adequacy of the data and methods used to establish them. These values are subject to scrutiny by industry leaders for accuracy, by Canada for compliance with regulation and funding agreements, and by independent actuaries for actuarial soundness. Unit performance impacts industry perception of programs, the Ministry and Minister. The values set by the Unit determine the liability undertaken by the Province (in excess of $500 million) and provincial budget requirements in AgriInsurance. The Unit must be able to identify trends, and global, national and local external market and production factors and project impacts on valuations and government cost and liability to support the budgeting process.

The Valuations Unit provides the required elements for program delivery including beginning production units, insurable values and premium rates. The Unit is responsible for ongoing evaluation of budgets, costs, forecasts and reinsurance requirements; key areas of focus are improved data collection and data source expansion for insurable values as well as development of a process for customizing/individualizing beginning production units.

Reporting to the Manager of the Unit, the Valuations Analyst uses strong quantitative skills and knowledge of agricultural crops to provide statistical and analytical support for the effective operation of BRM programs. The focus is on supporting the calculation, testing and certification of insurable values, production costs, premium rates and beginning production units.

Job Requirements:

• Degree in a related field such as Agriculture or a related science, Economics, or Business, AND
• At least two years’ experience conducting statistical analysis utilizing spreadsheet and database applications to evaluate data and draw conclusions for business decisions from large volumes of complex data. Experience with database queries is preferred.
• An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• At least two years’ experience in the Canadian agriculture sector as an analyst, producer, advisor or product representative.
• Demonstrated experience building and maintaining cooperative and productive relationships and effectively liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  

Preference may be given to candidates with:

• Demonstrated experience in Valuations.
• Experience with database queries.
