Skilled Labourer

Reporting to the Foreman, the Skilled Labourer will be responsible for all general labourer duties required on commercial scope construction projects. They will ensure work tasks are performed safely in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and company policies and that work is performed with a high level of quality and timeliness.

This position is based in the Calgary, AB area on a client site.

Working Conditions

• 44 hour work week (a 9 hour shift Monday through Thursday and an 8 hour shift on Friday)
• Overtime as required
• Working both indoors and outdoors in hot and cold weather conditions
• Working in and around noise and dust

Responsibilities

• Load and unload construction materials and move materials to the work area.
• Assist carpenters and other workers on site.
• Operate jack hammer and other tools.
• Assist with demolition.
• Participate in weekly safety meetings and daily toolbox talks.
• Advise supervision of unsafe conditions or acts that may be a hazard or danger to self and other workers.
• Ensure work areas are kept clean and free of hazards.
• Ensure tools and equipment are returned to job boxes and tool cribs.
• Report all incidents and near miss incidents including damages/non-damages and injury/non-injury incidents.
• Review and participate in the preparation of safe work practices/procedures as required.
• Other tasks and labour duties as required on the jobsite.

Qualifications

• High school diploma
• 2-3 years’ experience as a Labourer in the construction industry
• CSTS
• WHIMIS
• Fall protection an asset
• First Aid an asset
• Ability to take direction and follow through on instructions
• General construction safety knowledge
• Committed dedication to safety; reflected in practice and experience
• Strong attention to detail
• Positive attitude towards safety
• Ability to work collaboratively
• Superior written and verbal communication skills
• Superior focus on customer satisfaction
• Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol testing required
  

Physical Requirements

• Stand or walk for long periods of time
• Ability to stand, crouch, and kneel for long periods of time
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Climbing stairs/ladders regularly
• Exposure to hazards such as heights, power tools, slips, falls, falling objects, and sharp hand tools
