We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Sign Maker and Installer in the Facilitation and Passenger Programs team within the Passenger Journey Department. As a key member of the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for producing and installing signage at YVR, ensuring it meets our specifications and standards. We are looking for a multi-talented team member who is comfortable designing layouts, as well as producing and installing signage throughout the facility. This role is key to ensuring YVR meets our regulatory requirements, in addition to ensuring passengers have an exceptional experience at YVR.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Plan closely with internal and external stakeholders on signage requests to ensure they meet standards and specifications; as the subject matter expert, you will decide on the best materials and installation techniques for signage requests
  • Create signage artwork based on signage standards, for both fabrication, as well as content for digital signs
  • Develop new signage layouts and standards for non-standardized sign requests
  • Assess proposed signage locations in the planning stage before design and fabrication in order to recommend an optimal signage solution, if needed
  • Produce signage which can include, but is not limited to, creation of pull-up banners, office markers, nameplates, free-standing signs, sign faces for back-lit overhead signage, plinths, stanchion-toppers, sandwich boards, curb signs, removable decals, vehicle decals and magnetic signs
  • Install non-illuminated signage throughout the airport
  • Conduct signage audits which may result in sign repair or maintenance
  • Order supplies, source materials, in addition to other administrative duties as assigned to maintain the sign shop
  • Maintain sign log, coordinate requests and installation with stakeholders or third party installers
  • Document new standards and update the signage standards manual and specs on a regular basis
Key Qualifications Include
  • At least one year of sign making experience and one year of computer graphics program experience, supplemented by a minimum of a high school diploma; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Knowledge of different types of signage application techniques, and current processes for fabrication of both illuminated and non-illuminated signage, both indoor and outdoor
  • Sign-making skills such as weeding, taping and transferring to substrates
  • Experience with various pieces of sign-making equipment including saws, knives, hand tools, computer plotter and large format printer
  • Experience with MS Office and graphics programs such as Flexi Sign, Gerber Omega and Adobe Illustrator
  • Knowledge of various signage materials and substrates
  • Graphic design and layout experience
  • Ability to work on a ladder
  • Ability to lift rolls of vinyl for large format printer
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience handling customer concerns in positive and empathetic manner
  • Experience with various sign installation techniques including vinyl wrapping
  • Attention to detail and ability to proof layout design and text for errors
  • Ability to design and fabricate to existing specs and standards, along with creative ability to develop or modify designs as required

Living Wage for Families B.C. has determined the hourly rate of pay at which a household can meet its basic expenses. The 2022 living wage rate in Metro Vancouver is $20.52.
