Shelter Worker – Casual

HOURS:

• Casual – On/Call various shifts when needed.
• All shifts are for 12 hours per shift.

• Is able to work in adherence to The Salvation Army’s Christian Mission and Values.
• Awareness and compliance with CHILLIWACK Policies and Procedures.
• Awareness of The Salvation Army Communicable Disease Control Manual
• Monitors the activities of the clients and maintains availability for personal, practical, and moral support; may include providing safe storage and recording of personal belongings.
• Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reports.
• Responds to after office hour requests and process for accommodation if beds are available.
• Coordinates client care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in doing bed checks and room searches.
• May carry out inspection/security checks of property and grounds in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Handles the admission, orientation and evaluation of clients’ understanding of rules.
• Ensures ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline. Discharge disturbing or unruly clients for the protection of other clients. Note the details in the Daily Log.
• May prepare or provide simple meals for clients.
• Maintain a quiet and comfortable and secure environment for our shelter clients.
• Assure that each client receives the assigned bed with clean linen and personal hygiene products.
• Provide telephone access for local calls and message retrieval when requested.
• Provide direction to Clients Rights and Responsibilities.
• Offer the services of the Outreach Worker (by appointment) to assist in locating other community services and accommodation.
• Participate in ongoing training as provided and cooperate in the Annual Performance Evaluation
• The performance of the job requires moderate amounts of keyboarding and performing security walks. It also requires continuous monitoring of the environment, monitoring security cameras and attentiveness when interacting with clients and recording information.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Police Security Clearance Certificate.
• Certificate in First Aid and CPR Training.
• Non-Violent Crises Intervention Training.
• Ability to relate and engage marginalized people

Other Requirement:

The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures in addition to health and safety rules:

• Universal health and safety precautions.
• Immunization for Hepatitis B.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

• Background check consent
• A clear vulnerable sector screening
• Clean drivers abstract
• Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
