SF.FPTP.SS16 Community Disability Support Worker: Residential Support

Edmonton Integrated Services (EIS) is committed to promoting the development and well-being of individuals who have developmental disabilities, to strengthen positive relationships between individuals and their community and to promote inclusive living. We achieve this by providing a variety of services through our dedicated staff community, like you.

We are looking for highly motivated, committed and person centered individuals to join our Residential Support team as Community Disability Workers (CDSW). If you feel you can make a real difference to the individuals we support by adding value to peoples’ lives and working with them to achieve their goals then this is the role for you.

The Community Disability Worker is a front-line community disability services role that is responsible for the provision of day-to-day, hands-on support to individuals with developmental disabilities and behaviors of concern.

To succeed as a Community Disability Workeryou should be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience working with individuals with high behavioral needs;
  • Experience creating and implementing strategies with individuals who have high anxiety;
  • Excellent communication skills with teammates and management; and
  • Professionalism in interacting with stakeholders (guardians, family members, and community resources).

You Will Bring:

Formal Education:Some Post-Secondary Education, preferably in Rehabilitation Studies and/or Human Services. CPR and/or First Aid certificate is an asset.

Experience: A minimum of one (1) year experience in providing support to adults with mental and/or developmental disabilities. Experience dealing with challenging behaviors is a requirement.

Hours: Saturday-Sunday 12-8pm

Location:We are currently hiring for our Residential Support Program in Edmonton.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Must have strong ability to build rapport with individuals with high behavioural needs
  • Ability to confidently provide front-line, face-to-face support to individuals with varying challenges
  • Proven ability to work with mental health concerns, self-harming behaviors, and aggressive tendencies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to respond and remain calm in emotionally-charged situations
  • Positive attitude and sunny disposition
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to identify issues, set priorities, and implement an appropriate plan of action
  • Strong teamwork skills – proven ability to work collaboratively

Other Necessities:

  • Successful candidate will need to complete a Vulnerable Sectors and Criminal Record Check
