DUTIES

The University and Employment Preparation Department (Faculty of Education and Social Work) at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for a sessional faculty member (or members) in the Education and Skills Training (ESTR) Program in Fall 2023/Winter 2024. Duties will include preparation and instruction of the following courses:


ESTR 0120 Self and Community Awareness

Students explore their personal values and goals with regards to being successful in a work environment. A variety of self-assessments and self-discovery tools are completed to determine the field to which students are best suited. Students then develop a vocational plan that outlines their future plans. Completion of the vocational plan is a requirement for the Career Awareness course.


ESTR 0150 Career Awareness

Students examine the skills and profiles of entry-level occupations to assist in their choice of occupations to consider. Students compare the skills, abilities, and knowledge required for different jobs to their own skills, abilities and knowledge, and complete a job and self-assessment of their chosen occupation. In order to complete the course, students must develop a personal vocational plan that outlines their immediate goals and a five-year plan.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, or qualifications and experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities
normally developed in a Master’s program.
  • Teaching Certificate or Instructor’s Diploma.


Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years (full-time equivalent) teaching experience within the last 10 years.
  • Experience and knowledge of teaching strategies in: project-based learning, experiential learning, and/or integrated work-learning.
  • Experience working with students with diverse abilities in contexts that support development of self-advocacy, independence
and employment skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (Truth and Reconciliation
Commission’s Calls to Action 62).
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63).
  • Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10).
