Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

We’re looking for a well-rounded individual who can deliver high quality results to deadline as well as leverage his/her strong communication skills to build meaningful relationships with all levels of professionals (within Wood, Project Partners and Clients).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and development of marine structures including Jetties, Piers, Wharfs, harbour and shore protection
  • underground and above ground structures, industrial and commercial structures (structural steel, reinforced concrete, wood, composite members and pre-cast concrete)
  • Use of structural modeling software for analysis coupled with interpretation of the output data for the development of structural design
  • Development and preparation of construction staging and phasing plans
  • Review, design development and mark-up of construction drawings for foundations, columns, roof framing, floor framings, walls, pits, slabs with required sections and details
  • Coordination of engineering work schedules
  • Developing strong client relationships and establishing solid working relationships with the team members, engineers, architects, project managers and stakeholders
  • Preparing contract documents, specifications and engineering progress reports
  • Reviewing project documents for technical accuracy and competency
  • Ensuring design conforms with all applicable codes and client standards
  • Traveling to the construction sites to conduct structural inspections

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited university
  • Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering would be considered an asset
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in good standing with Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO). If licensed in other provinces must be eligible to obtain a PEO license.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience or more in structural analysis, design of reinforced concrete and steel structures or directly related activities utilizing the required technical skills
  • Detailed knowledge of OBC and NBC codes as well as CSA S16-01, A23.1-4 and ACI
  • Extensive experience in seismic design of marine structures, buildings and Infrastructures including Post Disaster Structures
  • Experience in linear, nonlinear, push over analyses, dynamic seismic modal and Time History analyses.
  • Knowledge of structural modeling and finite element analysis, dynamic and static analysis and Sound experience of working with Staad-Pro, SFrame, ETABS and SAP2000
  • Working knowledge of CAD software such as BIM, MicroStation, AutoCAD
  • Experience working on water and wastewater infrastructure, transit structures, industrial, commercial and other related projects are considered an asset
  • Previous experience working in an engineering consulting firm
  • Team leader working on multidiscipline projects, coordination with team members, clients and stakeholders
  • Experience in supervision, guidance and development, mentoring of junior staff
