HDR is looking for a Senior Mechanical Turbine Engineer - Hydropower to be part of our nationally ranked Hydropower Power group.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Senior Mechanical Turbine Engineer - Hydropower, we’ll count on you to:
  • Serve as a technical lead specializing in hydraulic and mechanical turbine equipment analyses, designs, manufacturing inspections, operational support and support of construction activities
  • Responsible for providing turbine engineering support from conceptual phase through hydraulic design and into operation including equipment selection, cost estimating, equipment layout and coordination with other engineering disciplines.
  • Responsible for assessing plant and unit condition of turbine equipment, developing refurbishment and upgrade scopes of work based on the assessments, and ultimately assessing the design development from the equipment supplier.
  • Responsible for hydraulic upgrade analysis based on capacity and/or efficiency.
  • Conducts design reviews in conjunction with clients, OEMs and various HDR staff.
  • Responsible to coordinate their workload across multiple projects to ensure on-time delivery on project commitments.
  • Work with the Project Manager, Regional Controller and Regional Director for project reviews with corporate management as needed
  • Travel throughout North America and locations of OEM manufacture world-wide (as needed).
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in turbine mechanical and hydraulic design work on hydropower facilities.
  • PE or P.Eng Required.
  • Aptitude and inclination to work collaboratively with other business class directors, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class, recruiting, marketing, and production efforts.
  • Committed to quality and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree Preferred.
