In this role, you will:
- Design and create mechanical and electrical interfaces for integration into crucial naval systems.
- Be responsible for the occupational Health & Safety of all direct reports
- Draft, review, and approve repair specifications for submarine maintenance activities
- Provide mentoring and professional oversight for a team of engineers and technologists.
- Assess, document, and communicate risks associated with submarine engineering systems to both internal and external customers
- Identify, design, and manage electrical and mechanical interfaces and requirements for naval systems and equipment
- Technically lead multidisciplinary teams to support the installation design and integration of new and replacement equipment related to submarine platform systems. Including: conducting customer meetings, capturing, and managing requirements, leading design reviews, specifying and managing the scope of work
- Complete and oversee a range of engineering tasks including feasibility studies, detailed designs, drawings, and calculations
- Develop knowledge of and apply Defence Standards, Military Specifications, and other relevant guiding principles in the design and integration of submarine specific systems and equipment
- Be responsive to Program Managers for dynamic program delivery requirements
- Identify risks, impacts, mitigations, and opportunities.
The ideal candidate brings:
- A Master of Engineering Degree in Marine Engineering, or similar discipline, i.e.: mechanical or electrical engineering
- Minimum 10 years of progressively senior Marine engineering experience (naval defense or military industry considered an asset)
- Minimum 5 years of submarine experience, ideally in submarine design and support
- Minimum 5 years experience in modifying existing and integrating new naval systems and equipment, specifically critical alarm, and detection systems.
- Experience supporting engineering services within government agencies as a consultant, advisor, or subject matter expert.
- Experience in design and maintenance of marine systems such as hydraulics, high pressure air, diesel, and propulsion systems.
- Experience conducting assessments of replacement and new equipment being introduced into existing systems, (multiple engineering discipline experience, i.e., mechanical, electrical, safety, considered an asset)
- First-hand knowledge of applying Naval Authority rules and Classification Society to calculations, design drawings and specifications
- Experience providing professional oversight and mentorship within a technical team (technical project lead experience an asset)
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Ability to achieve required security clearances:
- NATO Secret
- CGP security assessed
- ITAR positively assessed
- Controlled Goods

Security
- Candidates must be eligible for a Canadian Federal Government Security Clearance to the Secret level; ITAR, NATO and Controlled Goods clearance will also be required
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range from $113,000 - $127,000 per annum and participation in Babcock Canada’s discretionary bonus plan per company policy
- Coverage of fees to register as an AScT through ASTTBC
