The individual will lead the Reporting & Insights practice for Stores & Services as part of the Enterprise Analytics & Data Science team. Our multi-tenant cloud platforms power our analytics and ML/AI capabilities and we’re looking for an active hands-on contributor to play a central role in helping our teams understand performance and impact of their strategies. Additionally, the role will be continuously challenged to bring forward valuable insights to help their partners make better and more informed decisions.We’re on a transformation journey and this role will be a key enabler in accelerating our analytics practice. In addition to having direct ownership over Stores & Services, this role will work closely with various cross-functional partners and have the opportunity to build deep insights across the customer journey – extending to marketing, supply chain, and our B2B functions.This position represents an ideal role for a highly motivated and highly analytical individual. We are a highly collaborative, agile work environment, so the ideal candidate would demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and excellent technical depth. The successful candidate will be passionate about data and have a strong foundation in analytics, understanding business needs, and storytelling.Specifically, You WillStrategy & Enablement:- Establish the company as the leader in leveraging and executing on a customer first data-driven strategy
- Own and develop the vision, strategy, and execution for a best-in-class customer intelligence and analytics function, ensuring scalability of systems, governance, tools, capabilities, processes, and talent
- Work with other functions within Analytics and Engineering to curate and source together transactional/behavioural/operational data (in-store, online, third-party) into views that can easily be leveraged and trusted for decision making, connecting back to our customer, their journeys and business priorities
- Develop suite of reporting tools, with a self-serve enablement focus, that define business impact and project success, while also providing deep insights on integrated data sets to evaluate short term and long-term ROI
- Drive both strategic and tactical execution to unlock the value of data across internal and external data sets and generate critical actionable insights to drive the decision-making process
- Establish analytical standards and best practices to be leveraged across the company’s ecosystem
- Execute on the roadmap and deliver reporting & impactful insights to core partners across Retail Operations and Services (online and stores)
- Provide business insights and recommendations to drive increased revenue, conversion, traffic, profitability, and an improved customer experience. Implement quick wins to support the overall business objectives
- Oversee performance and operational reporting, ad-hoc analysis, and project ROI determination for core stakeholder groups, including manage ongoing reporting and business scorecards for corporate and field teams
- Determine business needs and the right KPIs for new projects/enhancements and deliver a crisp narrative on its outcome post-launch
- Work closely with partners to determine how to further leverage analytics, addressing their unique needs for insights in a scalable manner
- Deliver a common reporting service layer between various back end and front-end data across all BUs enabling streamlined self-serve reporting
- Leverage unified 360 view of customers to deliver customer health reporting, insights, and drive a customer data narrative across all aspects of business functions
- Focus on automation and utilizing technology to provide repeatable solutions; drive optimization and efficiency initiatives to support reduced cycle time and automation across existing workflows
- Build partnerships throughout the organization to champion the voice for Stores & Services, and elevate the conversation around Analytics within the function
- Drive, mentor, and motivate the organization to focus on continuous analytics excellence and the delivery of information and insights to the business’s key stakeholders
- Engage broadly within the Staples Canada organization to communicate wins and to identify potential opportunities to consider; enable all analysts to be empowered in using all types of data
- Partner with Marketing, Merchandising, and other teams to bring forward solutions to accelerate their roadmaps, enabling us all to move faster and further together
- Mentor team to be a best-in class analytics function
- Motivate, mentor, and ensure your direct team has the right tools, processes, and principles in place to deliver work that is on time and to support partner needs
- Lead a continuous learning environment with respect to utilizing the latest methodologies, technologies, and illustrative best practices to tell stories which can drive business decisions
- Develop a culture where individuals are motivated, with an ownership mindset, that enable each other to be better every day, and extend that support to the wider organization
- BS / BA, preferably in Mathematics or Computer sciences or any other quantitative discipline
- 5-7 years in a highly analytical, results-driven environment
- 3+ years of experience specifically in retail data management and analytics
- Demonstrated retail experience working with stores & online datasets
- Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills; ability for translating large, complex datasets and digesting them into actionable business insights that have an impact
- Proven ability to collaborate broadly with flexible, positive attitude and ability to get results
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate to the senior executive level and identify the strategic opportunities behind your analysis
- Ability to manage large datasets and being open and eager to use new tools; experience with Looker, PowerBI, or any Business Intelligence tools
- Expert in SQL
- Proficiency with statistical tools such as SAS or R an asset
