WSP Canada is seeking a Senior/Principal Consultant, to join our Advisory and Consulting (A&C) team within WSP Canada’s Energy Resources and Industry (ERI) business line.

This role can be based in Toronto (GTA), Montreal, Calgary or Vancouver. WSP offers all employees a flexible work arrangement to allow for flexibility while we are impacted by Covid19. As the organization transitions back to normal practice, post Covid, employees should expect to adjust their work arrangements accordingly.

The A&C team delivers insights, innovation and solutions to help our clients address the impacts of climate change, digital disruption and industry transformation, and achieve their strategic objectives by making the right investments in assets and infrastructure. We provide our clients with technical and operational insights and analysis to guide effective decision-making for investments that range across the energy infrastructure spectrum. The A&C team helps our clients support safe and reliable operations, resilient infrastructure, and profitable growth, while delivering on environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals.

This role encompasses consulting, project management, and market development and is suited for a highly motivated professional who thrives in solving complex problems related to the energy sector. Responsibilities will include ensuring the delivery of a range of advisory services to support clients in the early stages of energy infrastructure investment planning, through project development and operations. The successful candidate will possess a broad understanding of current and new energy technologies, including hydrogen, renewable natural gas and biofuels, large scale energy project developments, functioning of the energy markets, and the technical and business drivers for successful operations. Ability to work in a collaborative, diverse and agile environment is critical to success in this role.

OPPORTUNITIES
  • Provide subject matter expertise and advisory services to WSP’s clients on a range of energy transition projects and initiatives including hydrogen, waste-to-energy, renewable natural gas, biofuels, carbon capture, utilization & storage (CCUS), and negative emissions technologies.
  • Collaborate with other members of A&C to develop new client relationships and expand existing relationships with value-added advisory services related to the energy transition.
  • Assist clients with evaluation of potential end-use markets for new energy technologies.
  • Pursue research, analyze policies, interpret regulations and review incentive programs to assist clients in understanding the opportunities and risk for investments in new energy technologies.
  • Execute on due diligence and independent reviews for clients, pursuing greenfield development and/or acquisition of new energy technologies, that requires technology evaluations, feasibility studies, performance assessments and commercial reviews.
  • Act as a project manager to successfully lead and manage business opportunities and projects across the project lifecycle with various clients, in close collaboration with various WSP teams.
  • Build partnerships internally and externally to create solutions and synergies for specific energy transition challenges.
  • Support A&C growth plans through proposal development, client presentations, thought leadership and marketing initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business, economics, or a related field of study.
  • Post-graduate degree in engineering, science, business, economics, or a related field of study is preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience, including working with organizations in the ERI sector.
  • Experience working within a Management Consulting firm is preferred.
  • Experience in research and analysis of new energy technologies, including hydrogen, CCUS, renewable natural gas, biofuels and negative emission technologies.
  • Strong project management skills and knowledge of energy project lifecycle
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with the preparation of proposals and business development activities in identifying and responding to public and private sector opportunities.
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is preferred.
