Festival Hydro is a distribution company serving 20,000 customers in seven municipalities in Stratford and surrounding areas. We are a progressive utility looking for an incumbent that supports our ongoing commitment to customer and operational excellence.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Financial Analystwill be responsible for keeping proper financial records and aiding in financial and regulatory reporting. In this position, you will be working on business forecasting, data and variance analysis, and problem solving. In addition to performing general accounting duties, you will know how to analyze the company’s business data with a critical eye, spotting data anomalies, trends or deviations and then recommending strategies for improvement.
Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
· Reconcile the accuracy of all journals monthly and provide analysis on specific general ledger accounts.
· Reconcile sub-ledgers to General Ledger and investigate and resolve differences. Review general ledger records and reconciliations to ensure accounting records are accurate and complete.
· Produce financial statements and quarterly account reconciliations.
· Analysis of accounting changes to ensure financial reporting standards are adhered to.
· Develop annual and 5-year operating budgets for the Company and assist in the development of the annual and 5-year capital budgets.
· Provide and/or acquire assistance in the invoicing of work orders.
· Provide various types of financial information to business partners when requested. Work with departmental managers on issues which cross over departments.
· Coordinate with external auditors and assist throughout the audit examination.
· Assist with identification of opportunities where operations may be streamlined to reduce costs.
· Review of daily/monthly tasks performed by others in the accounting department, i.e., HST remittances, work order billings, cheques, material requisitions, T5’s, T4’s, EHT, WSIB.
· Ensure proper settlement procedures with the IESO and monthly review of settlement amounts.
· Participate in OEB information requests (i.e., OEB audits)
· Analyze and interpret the requirements of new or changing regulations and assess the impact on existing operations; implement project plan to ensure changes are active by deadlines.
· Prepare financial statements and related financial analysis for Board of Directors meetings.
· Liaise with regulators, auditors, and association members to better understand legislative requirements and issues in the electricity market.
Qualifications:
· Degree or Diploma in post-secondary education within the accounting discipline.
· Professional accounting designation – CPA.
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience preferred.
· In depth knowledge of corporate taxation.
- Background in a utility environment considered an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Government legislation, regulations, accounting principles and guidelines (i.e., IFRS).
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
· Leadership skills, Project management skills, Analytical skills, Communication Skills.
· Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
· Excellent communication skills.
· Ability to accept additional responsibility as assigned.
