North America Store Design is responsible for the retail architecture and store design of all North American stores for lululemon. We deliver on the company’s strategic growth plans through creativity, highly efficient operating standards, and the focus of sweat, grow, connect as manifested through the execution of the brand’s pinnacle expression: The physical retail channel. We support the business ambitions and enhance guest experience while delivering consistent design queues to reinforce a strong experiential brand identity.

a day in the life

  • Works across multiple projects, partnering closely with the Director of Store Design, Alternate Channels, and Retail Brand Experience to drive storytelling to new levels and deliver highly crafted, innovative Experiences.
  • Responsible for the design development, management, and strategy to elevate the retail environment for lululemon
  • Works cross-functionally with teams in North America mainline Store Design, Alternate Channels, Brand Creative, Retail Operations, Real Estate, Planning, Construction, Procurement, Visual Merchandising, Brand Experience, Future Operations and other business units throughout the organization to design strategies, initiatives and policies that support the wider business goals
  • Applies senior level design and management skills to resolve creative problems, improve efficiency, and accomplish business and design objectives within Global Brand Experience department & cross-functional departments. Supporting Director(s) and Leaders through development and implementation of strategic design and brand initiatives
  • Ability to oversee specialty projects and ensure effective collaboration with team members and leaders
key responsibilities and duties:
  • Develop the strategies, creative briefs, and designs for Alternate Channels special retail projects, working directly with Brand Retail Experience, Retail Operations, Visual Merchandising, Future Operations, Store Design, Construction, Real Estate, external vendors, and suppliers
  • Responsible for end-to-end creative for specialty projects: Ideation, documentation, and management of creative concepts to drive projects to completion & implementation
  • Responsible for developing Alternate Channels Playbook, including principles and guides for Immersive Storytelling Retail Destinations
  • Provides design and creative direction to Alternate Channels and Store Design team through thorough knowledge of retail design and space planning, constructibility, integration of engineering disciplines, and building costs and codes
  • Monitors project development to ensure projects are delivered on time and budget with the highest level of design and execution, and are fully compliant with global brand and design standards as well as local code requirements
  • Provides Alternate Channels and cross-functional partners with strategy and feasibility support, validating site constraints, attending market tours where applicable, providing expertise where necessary to inform business decisions
  • Supporting Director(s), acts as spokesperson for department, supporting ongoing process refinement, business decisions, and strategies that enhance the guest experience and business requirements
  • Supports Director with implementation of new strategies, initiatives, workstreams, concepts, design standards, and playbooks
  • Enrolls and liaises with senior stakeholders and cross-functional partners on execution of design strategies, and support of operational strategies, high level strategy meetings and senior level design approval meetings
  • Responsible for presentations to external partners to gain permissions and approval (e.g. Presentations of concept to landlords, architectural review board, etc.) where needed.
  • Responsible for performance management and people decisions
qualifications

  • Degree in Architecture, or Retail Design, or equivalent
  • 7 - 12+ years minimum experience in retail design, and/or architectural / interior design for a consumer-focused global brand.
  • Experience / further educations in Marketing, Business, Visual Merchandising, or other relevant field is an asset.
  • Fluency in Smartsheet, Excel, AutoCad & REVIT, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Lucernex, Sketchup, or other 3D modelling software (required)
  • Proven ability to work with and lead a cross functional team. Superior interpersonal skills to collaborate actively and proactively with others in a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent communication (verbal, written, visual) skills in a highly collaborative environment. Superior ability to deliver presentation to diverse business stakeholders of various management types and levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively manage tasks of varying complexities and prioritization.
  • Demonstrated successful management of multiple projects and initiatives deliverables at different phases of development on time and within the given budget.
  • Experienced with all phases of project management and Creative Design Phases, able to work with people of diverse discipline backgrounds
  • Highly motivated, detail oriented creative problem solver; able to employ leadership, critical thinking and time management skills and can work efficiently and effectively both independently and in teams. Dependable, have a proved work ethic and integrity
