What is the opportunity?

The Institutional Portfolio Solutions (IPS) group is a part of PH&N Institutional, a division within RBC Global Asset Management (RBC GAM). The IPS group is a specialized team dedicated to providing portfolio analytics and quantitative risk modelling to help stakeholders assess the risk/reward impact of different strategic investment decisions and make informed, prudent choices. As a Senior Analyst with the IPS group, you will support the IPS team with the fulfillment of its mandate to provide institutional portfolio managers across all areas with ideas, innovations, and rigorous analytical capabilities that will allow them to work more closely with clients on building robust investment strategy decision frameworks and act as trusted advisors.

What will you do?
  • Understand all proprietary IPS modeling tools, databases, resources, and materials with the ability to make modifications as required
  • Produce analytics for client projects or ad hoc internal requests including risk/return/correlation analyses, portfolio modeling, optimization analyses, risk budgets, asset-liability modeling, economic scenario analysis, stochastic projections, and custom modeling work
  • Assist in the preparation, formatting, writing, editing, and proof reading of IPS presentation materials for client meetings, new business pitches, marketing and educational materials as well as internal and external publications, including modeling output, charts, diagrams, and data tables that are accompanied by commentary and interpretation of the content
  • Gather, process, and analyze new data or information that may be required for various projects
  • Understand all relevant RBC GAM and third-party applications
  • Understand all funds and strategies manufactured by RBC GAM with knowledge of considerations relevant to IPS modeling
  • Develop a basic understanding of key non-investment considerations relevant to PH&N Institutional clients such as actuarial norms and regulations for pension plans
  • Validate the technical accuracy of work produced by other IPS analysts as required
  • Assist IPS managers in answering questions from the broader institutional team receiving IPS work
What do you need to succeed?

Must-have
  • Undergraduate degree in finance, actuarial sciences, mathematics, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial risk management, investment/pension consulting, or related industry
  • Holder of, or active candidate for CFA, ASA/FSA, FRM, or related designation
  • Proficient in investments with good mathematics/statistics literacy
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both French and English
Nice-to-have
  • Knowledge of pension plan landscape
  • Familiarity with VBA and Bloomberg
  • Strong problem solving skills, attention to detail, and creativity
  • Strong analytical, time and project management skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and work independently as well as within a team
