Position Title:Scientist Nutrition

Position Type: Regular - Full-Time

Position Summary:
This role is responsible for monitoring and evaluating information on specific nutrition related issues as part of the global Research & Regulatory team at McCain. The position will provide nutrition support and insight to multiple global and regional projects to help deliver against business objectives.

The incumbent will provide updates, insight, and advice to McCain stakeholders on the nutrition, health and wellness trends and activities as they relate to McCain products and act as a point person to accelerate nutrition research/knowledge with academia and industry. This includes helping to identify strengths and gaps of research studies, assessing impact of emerging issues to McCain’s portfolio, and identifying areas of opportunities or potential threats.

This role will also assist in evaluating McCain’s product portfolio from a nutrition perspective and keeping abreast of emerging clinical research to ensure our internal knowledge database is up to date. This role will support McCain’s internal N,H&W activities through collaboration with McCain’s Center of Expertise and various external nutrition research partners.
Technical Expertise:
  • Provide scientific knowledge and technical understanding of McCain products as it relates to their nutritional properties and how they affect the human body
  • Keep current with advancements in nutrition research
  • Assess strength and rigor of research in the area of clinical nutrition
  • Effectively interpret outcomes of nutrition research and communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Create and review research protocols in conjunction with Sr. team members and/or external partners
  • Identify pathways for mitigating misperceptions of the relationship of certain food products to weight gain, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, etc.
  • Collaborate with R&D colleagues to identify innovation technology platforms to pursue breakthroughs for improving the nutritional profile of McCain products

  • Support McCain internal health & wellness initiatives, e.g. “nutrition month” in Canada, or similar activities in other countries.
  • Help generate and communicate nutrition advocacy materials
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, as needed
  • Share technical information and key project findings as necessary throughout McCain
  • Effectively communicate internally with the R&D teams and any other associated departments

Related Work Experience (Internal to the organization or external):
  • Minimum 2 years of successful practical work experience in nutrition science or related field
  • Understanding of nutrition and clinical research and how food affects the human body
  • Knowledge and expertise in R&D processes, scientific experimental design, ingredient technology, food science and food processing preferred.
  • Experience with cross-functional project teams, preferably in a global work environment.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across all levels and functions internally and with third parties.
