We are a small non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the life experience of a young adult who lives with special needs. Our goals are to grow his life/independence skills; provide a healthy, companionable home environment and to engage him in projects and community activities of interest. This is a part-time position for at least 2 x 24 hour shifts/week. Our young adult is social, loves rock music, cats and dogs and anything to do with trains.

Job description

Part- time Residential Support Worker - Vernon, BC

This role involves providing companionship, guiding the young adult to develop more independence in daily home routines and engaging him in community activities. This opportunity is for 2 (or more) x 24 hour shifts/week at the young adult’s home.

Responsibilities include:

• Provides a companionable home environment with healthy meal preparation and daily activities
• Manages daily household routines while coaching the young adult to take on greater independence.
• Follows health and safety protocols, administers medications and keeps records of daily activities and health information
• Actively supports the young adult in pursuing personal interests and building independent living skill

Work is performed in this individual’s home. We aim to provide flexible work schedules balancing the employee’s needs with those of our organization. During shifts, private accommodation and meals as well as expenses for outings are provided.

Qualifications and requirements include:

• Successful work experience with teens or young adults with special needs, preferably with autism and training in a related field
• Excellent teamwork and effective oral and written communication skills
• Good household management skills and experience cooking simple nutritious meals
• Current First Aid and CPR certification
• Must have a reliable, safe vehicle and business insuranc
• Demonstrated initiative, creativity and a strong desire to make a positive contribution in the lives of others
