The Alzheimer Society of Brant, Haldimand Norfolk, Hamilton Halton (ASBHNHH) is looking for a full time Public Education Coordinator, Halton Region. Under the direction of the Team Lead, Education, Social Programs and Volunteer Services, this position facilitates the promotion of awareness, development and delivery of risk reduction and dementia education, and skills development for various groups including the general public, persons living with dementia, care partners, healthcare professionals, service providers, etc. This position also contributes to the broader goal of building dementia friendly communities. Travel, evening work and occasional weekend work is required across the service geography. This role requires some lifting and carrying of items regularly (presentation, outreach materials, Dementia Experience supplies, etc.).

This role is located in our Burlington office (4391 Harvester Road, Unit, 8, Burlington, ON L7L 4X1) with occasional travel throughout Halton Region. Office hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm, but occasional evening and weekend work is required. This role also requires regular lifting and carrying of items (presentation, outreach materials, dementia experience supplies, etc.) The hourly range for this role is $20.22 - $30.33 (based on 1820 hours/year).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with members of the Education team and the Team Lead to design, deliver, and evaluate dementia educational curriculum, materials, and activities for a variety of groups in a range of settings.
  • Initiates education activities in the community to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s dementia, other dementias, and dementia risk reduction.
  • Responds to requests for education regarding Alzheimer’s dementia and other dementias, and the services of ASBHNHH in a timely manner.
  • Works with the Communications Specialist to create outreach materials.
  • Identifies and acts upon opportunities for community and agency partnerships to advance awareness and education efforts.
  • Collects and documents service delivery statistical information in the current client information management system in a timely manner.
  • Supervises and supports volunteers and student placements
  • Takes an active role in promoting and protecting personal health and safety and the health and safety of others, both staff and consumers. [Sec. 28(2) OHSA]

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • College or university degree in Gerontology, Social Services or related field.
  • Minimum two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in health or social services field.
  • Demonstrated experience in adult education including program design, delivery and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience working with persons living with dementia, care partners and service providers.
  • Knowledge of dementia and expertise in all aspects of dementia care
  • Knowledge of adult education principles and practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Applications as well as other platforms such as Zoom.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and regular access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Access to a reliable cell phone.
  • Excellent presentation skills, written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and in a self-directed manner with a minimal amount of supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to speak a second language is an asset.
  • GPA training and/or knowledge of Teepa Snow’s PAC training is an asset.
