About the Opportunity

Sydney, Nova Scotia is seeking psychiatrists to provide care to Cape Breton Regional Municipality. The successful candidate will join a cohesive team with established members from diverse backgrounds that provides high-quality care. The inpatient and community outpatient teams consist of social workers, nurses, occupational therapists, recreation therapists, and psychologists.Sydney has three inpatient mental health units and three inpatient withdrawal management/detox units. In Cape Breton, satellite clinics for mental health and addictions operate in the following communities:

  • Inverness
  • New Waterford
  • Glace Bay
  • North Sydney

Responsibilities

  • provide on call coverage to inpatient mental health units and emergency departments
  • provide in-house consultations (9 a.m. - 6 p.m.) and consultations by phone
  • support community outreach teams
  • provide a full scope of care to children, adults, and seniors
  • support clozapine and depot clinics
  • offer consultations for adults with neurodevelopment disorders
  • contribute to and participate in teaching programs and activities
  • contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities as assigned

Expected Hours

  • full-time
  • on call requirement

Qualifications

  • all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • all specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
  • membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
