Employment Status: Part-time position - 21 hours per week, with possibility of extension to 28 hours
Starting Date: June 1, 2023

Founded in 1982, community is at the heart of the Rideau-Rockcliffe Community Resource Centre (RRCRC). Located in Ottawa’s Ward13, we build and promote a healthy and resilient community through the delivery of quality, diverse and innovative services in a safe and inclusive space. We provide a range of social supports interventions that enable the empowerment of residents, community resilience, and the inclusion of all. This includes food bank services, crisis intervention, community development services, children and youth programming, the operation of several social enterprises, as well as a community innovation program.

Our diverse team of employees, supported by a strong core of volunteers and our Board of Directors develops, implements and executes our wide range of programs and services within our ward and beyond. II. THE ROLE

We care about the well-being of our community which is at the heart of all our decisions. Community Development has immense potential to improve the lives of those living in our ward (especially the most marginalized and vulnerable) by building on community strengths/assets, increasing community capacity to address challenges, and advocating for system level change.
The Community Development Coordinator will take a leadership role in identifying community and individual needs, developing appropriate strategies and initiatives, enhance, coordinate and leverage existing initiatives and programs and provide supports for their successful implementation.

III. FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a GIK Program Worker. In this role, you will provide essential support to the GIK Program Officer in managing the operations of our Gifts in Kind (GIK) program. Your responsibilities will include assisting with donation processing, inventory management, order preparation, and other operational tasks as needed. Additionally, you must possess driving skills as you will be required to drive mid-size or larger vans for donation pickups and deliveries. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to our mission of facilitating the efficient distribution of donated items to agencies in need.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the GIK Program Officer in coordinating the donation processing and distribution activities.
  • Assist with sorting donated items into appropriate categories and maintaining an organized storage area.
  • Help record and update donations and donor information accurately in the inventory system.
  • Collaborate with the GIK Program Officer to prepare orders for recipient agencies based on their requirements.
  • Ensure that distributed donations are properly removed from the inventory system.
  • Contribute to maintaining a well-organized and clean storage area.
  • Assist in implementing and following the GIK Program Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Collaborate with the GIK team to facilitate efficient workflow and effective communication.
  • Drive mid-size or larger vans for donation pickups and deliveries
  • Provide support in other duties as assigned by the GIK Program Officer or Program Pillar

  • Maintaining awareness of and compliance with funder requirements, policies, procedures, and regulations, as applicable
  • Being prepared for, attending and actively participating in staff, team and other Centre meetings, as required
  • Volunteering for various ad-hoc Centre committees as well as “pitching in” to help other staff members when requested and where possible
  • Maintaining up-to-date professional skills and knowledge through formal and informal training

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Essential

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with inventory management systems (training will be provided if necessary).
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Valid driver’s license and a proven track record of safe driving.
  • Proficiency in driving mid-size vans for donation pickups and deliveries.
  • Physical ability to lift and move donated items as required.
  • Basic proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database management
  • Organized, with a degree of initiative and flexibility
  • Ability to multitask and self-direct in tasks under supervision
  • Basic understanding of, and commitment to, Poverty Reduction principles

2. Language

  • English and French, written and spoken

3. Assets

  • Familiarity with WordPress system
