Overview

In line with Lafarge’s safety and environmental standards, meet or exceed production commitments and forecasts in terms of volumes, deadlines, costs (budget) and product compliance. Show leadership in safety and be seen as a driver for safety improvement. Ensure shift supervisors and process operators are held accountable for the work standards and performance in order to achieve Plant objectives and departmental targets.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare weekly, monthly and annual production schedules relative to sales forecast.
  • Participate in the daily 6:30am and 2:00pm meetings, as well as the weekly scheduling meeting to coordinate the work with the Maintenance Coordinator.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Coordinator in scheduling of equipment stoppages for shutdowns and repairs.
  • Work with Shift Supervisors to build a team spirit for shift supervisors and personnel, and focus on people development.
  • Prepare and submit the refractory portions of the Production Department budget.
  • Prepare the scope of work for refractory repairs and work with Purchasing in the bidding process and purchasing of refractory materials.
  • Manage the refractory install and costs.
  • Plan and organize manpower according to the needs of the department.
  • Participate in process optimization and benchmarking.
  • Administration of the Collective Agreement.
  • Resolve daily issues relating to cement production and work with other departments to resolve issues which can impact shipments or product quality.
  • Review and streamline work methods (schedules, SOP’s, best practices) in order to minimize cost and improve efficiencies.
  • Participate in development and implementation of safety rules and procedures. Assist the Shift Supervisors in resolving crew safety issues.
  • Facilitate reliability corrections as required in areas of responsibility.
  • Exhibit and exercise Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) in the field on a daily basis.
  • Provide relief for the Production Manager as required.
Education

Qualifications
  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering or related subject
Experience And Skill Set
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in cement or similar process in a supervisory role
  • Good knowledge of production management and planning.
  • Good working knowledge of cement manufacturing.
  • In-depth knowledge of production requirements and capabilities.
  • Good knowledge of all applicable environment and safety laws and regulations.
  • Good knowledge of product quality parameters and of quality control test.
