Reporting to the Assistant Superintendent, Operations & Mechanical (ASOM), the Operations & Mechanical Supervisor (OMS) is an integral team member of the Rocky Mountaineer Operations and Mechanical team. The Operations & Mechanical Supervisor will be mainly responsible for executing the operating, maintenance, supply chain and servicing plan for the dedicated work location.

This position is deemed Safety Critical and pre-employment testing will be required. Final candidates must successfully pass a safety critical medical exam and will undergo medical monitoring as prescribed by Transport Canada. This position requires you to periodically access an active railway area where impaired performance could result in a significant incident affecting the health and safety of team members, guests, the public, property, or the environment.
Key Areas of Accountability

  • Support change initiatives, assist team members to achieve individual, department and corporate goals
  • Meet or exceed Operational and Capital Budget deliverables
  • Support asset utilization strategies on overall equipment effectiveness, cycle times and repair metrics
  • Develop and maintain meaningful relationships among team, internal partners, external suppliers & contractors
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements are met
  • Supervise workforce resources effectively
  • Conduct safety and performance audits
  • Support maintenance and capital project deliverables
  • Organize, facilitate, and document maintenance, provisioning, and servicing work orders
  • Organize, facilitate, and document training for team members
  • Support investigations and corrective action plans for workplace incidents
  • Willingness to participate in personal development company initiatives
  • Develop, execute and manage SOP’s and ensure efficiencies of all product flow strategies are efficient, and followed

Safety

  • Comply with Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR), General Operating Instructions (GOI), Federal Railroad Association (FRA), and all other safety policies, procedures, and rules
  • Support incident reporting processes ensuring the safety and security of team members, guests, and contractors are met in compliance with the Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Identify, protect, and report safety hazards to management and OH&S Committee
  • Meet or exceed safety and security deliverables
  • Maintain basic first aid level provided by Rocky Mountaineer

Operations

  • Support the successful execution of the RM Maintenance Model and Operating Plan
  • Support Operations and Mechanical requirements in the Operations Centre
  • Ensure safe movement of rail equipment
  • Lead the execution of movements of inventory to RM trains, rail equipment & network sites
  • Manage, build, negotiate, and evaluate vendor relationships and purchasing /logistics agreements
  • Lead the completion of warehouse work orders on brand safely and efficiently
  • Support during Emergency Operations (EOC)
  • Execute the company’s materials handling strategy
  • Support operational and equipment availability requirements
  • Execute and sustain 5S Lean methodology in warehouse and shop to seek continuous improvement efficiencies
  • This position may require the ability to train for and perform switching duties

Mechanical

  • Able to read, understand, and interpret schematics, manuals, and other instructions pertaining to work orders
  • Required to train for and perform safely, additional mechanical skills including forklift operations, boom lifts, jacks, drop tables and other relevant equipment and tasks
  • Required to repair, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment
  • Support the successful execution of the RM Maintenance Model
  • Support and advise other team members regarding equipment work orders
  • Lead external contractors on site
  • Able to complete work orders safely and efficiently

Qualifications
Education, Certification, Licenses

  • Relevant mechanical, operational, or supply chain post-secondary education is an asset
  • High School Diploma
  • First Aid Level 1 Certification is an asset
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Qualification and/or proven knowledge in safe heavy equipment operations such as forklifts, cranes, etc.
  • Qualification and/or proven knowledge in safe small hand tool handling such as grinders, drills, etc.
  • Previous Qualification under CROR Operating Rules is an asset

Experience/Skills

  • High attention to detail with a desire to maintain brand standards
  • Experience in supply chain is an asset
  • Project management/coordination experience an asset
  • Troubleshooting ability across a variety of different mechanical and electrical systems is an asset
  • Experience in a supervisory role is an asset
  • Effective time management and problem-solving skills
  • Railroad experience is an asset
  • Strong coordination and organizational skills
  • Able to take personal accountability, be adaptable, and be a problem solver
  • Familiarity with computer applications
  • Good communication and leadership skills
  • Able to work cross-functionally

Work Environment

  • May require occasional travel
  • Physical demands may require lifting to 80 lbs. on occasion
  • Rail industrial site that requires walking and sitting throughout the day
  • 24/7 operation that may require varied work schedules
  • Indoor/outdoor working environment
