We are looking for an Operations Engineer to join us in the exciting work we do in AES. Reporting to the Manager of Operations, it’ll be your responsibility to provide the operations team with facility-related technical expertise and lead project management activities for facility maintenance projects / major turnarounds. In this position, you will also be responsible for project evaluation, project development, leading management of change, and incident/hazard investigations.

What You Get To Do:

• Technical & Engineering Expertise
• As an engineering representative, act as the point of contact for Commercial, Operations, Integrity, Project Execution, HSSE, and other internal groups
• Provide facility related technical support through facility life cycle
• Handle equipment sizing & design calculations, plant process and pipeline modeling
• Develop mechanical and process design for small scale facility changes (including stamping for P. Eng)
• Handle technical drawing creation, updating, and maintenance
• Awareness of overall technical scope of projects and facility including outside of engineer’s expertise
• Facility process and equipment troubleshooting and optimization
• Provide technical support for project execution, operations, and business development
• Consolidate and track all ongoing projects, initiatives, and operational issues associated with assigned infrastructure assets
• Prioritize and communicate the work/activities that have the greatest impact to the business
• Active involvement in incident investigations
• Participate in HAZOPS, PHA, and Facility Impact Assessments

• Engineering Projects & Planning
• Execute capital and maintenance projects as the project manager, to meet commitments to customers
• Act as project manager and project engineer to manage all assigned projects, including planning, economics, scheduling, execution, cost tracking, forecasting and some project controls
• Project and Technical oversight of 3rd party engineering firms performing work on existing facilities
• Provide monthly project status reports to management
• Champion project management staged gate process
• Monitor budget and schedule for assigned projects and provide monthly reporting
• Follow ATCO Project Management procedures
• Champion the MOC process and contribute to executing field level MOCs

• Safety, Regulatory & Compliance
• Work with the HSSE department and committees to ensure that ATCO standards and OH&S requirements are followed
• Report and follow up on incidents and Hazard ID’s
• Comply with corporate standards, policies, procedures and guidelines
• Familiarity with and incorporation of regulatory and industry codes, standards, directives, bulletins and guides
• Participate in the annual Corporate Emergency Response Planning Exercise
• Active involvement in the joint health & safety committee
• Report and follow up on incidents and Hazard ID’s
• Complete job and area observations

Who You Are:

• Undergraduate degree in Engineering
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience with a variety of plant and field experience
• Professional Engineering designation is required
• PMP or CAPM is preferred
• Experience working within an Operations Team in a remote facility is required
• A comprehensive understanding of all safety and regulatory requirements
• A strong operational background with a varied base of technical knowledge
• Demonstrated ability to function independently, take initiative and function with a high degree of professionalism.
• Well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated resourcefulness and the ability to work as an effective team member.
• Ability to prioritize conflicting demands.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to present critical information to field operations and company management in a simple and concise manner.
• Ability to multi-task and work within a fast-paced environment while remaining flexible and steadfast.
• Constantly improving technical skills and knowledge through attendance at trainings, courses, industry meetings, and workshops.
