Montessori Teacher - Job Description

We are seeking a Montessori teacher to fill up an immediate vacancy at our centre in Oakville, Ontario. This position is for a classroom for children aged 2.5 to 6 years of age and the selected candidate will work alongside another CASA Directress and a Montessori assistant teacher.

As a Montessori teacher, you have the opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life every day! Your enthusiastic passion for learning will help a child discover new ideas and spark imagination. Your patient and loving nature will create a caring environment to allow the child to explore confidently and build self-esteem. You will guide the child through many exciting milestones and model new capabilities as he/she works towards greater independence.

• Early Childhood Educator
• Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario

Requirements

• Montessori Certification from an accredited Montessori Teacher’s training Institute in Canada
• Teaching Certificate from an accredited program.
• Montessori teaching experience at the 3-6 year old level
• Eco-friendly mindset and the ability to promote our philosophy
• Valid Standard First Aid/CPR training certification
• Clear vulnerable person’s criminal reference check
• Up to date health and immunization records

Your goals as a teacher include helping the child to accomplish the following:

• Build social and emotional skills by encouraging and modelling positive relationships with other children, teachers and families.
• Develop intellectual and cognitive abilities through fun exploration using Montessori materials and developmentally learning materials and/or toys.
• Foster creative abilities and fine motor skills through art exploration, music enjoyment and sensory activities.
• Enhance large motor skills through daily outdoor play and movement activities.
• Encourage a love and respect for nature, diversity and the environment by weaving opportunities to explore into daily life.
• Help to maintain accurate and timely enrolment and family records.
• Share and discuss important goals, decisions and concerns with staff, Director and Supervisor.
• Attend and actively participate in meetings, workshops, and training courses.

Your role in Glen Abbey Child Care & Montessori Centre’s community of children, teachers, family and neighbourhood requires that you:

• Foster strong relationships with everyone in the community through open, honest and frequent communication including listening to the concerns and ideas of others.
• Coach staff in respectful communications with children, families and each other.
• Create an environment that reinforces an eco-friendly, healthy and inclusive philosophy.
• Support safety and health practices in the community, and keep the environment and equipment clean and in good working order.
• Provide input to the CASA classroom curriculum and actively participate in enhancing our program for the children’s benefit.
• Uphold the goals and policies. and the moral integrity of the centre, and model the values for others.

Required experience:
