We are currently in search of a term specific full time Mental Health and Substance Use Worker to join the MHSU Complex Care Housing team at the Community Health & Services Centre in Kelowna, B.C.

This term specific full time position is until April 30, 2023.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will be someone who understands principles of harm reduction and trauma informed care. Someone who has worked with people with mental health and substance use clients.

What will you work on?

This is a brand new position with the new Complex Care Housing team. The MHSU Worker and Complex Care Housing team will be supporting people who are chronically under-housed, who live with mental health and substance use disorders. The staff will conduct mental status exams, help people with their activities of daily living, and support them in learning how to live in a home again. They will provide harm reduction services and they will work with the clients and support them in their care plans and life goals.

The Substance Use Worker functions as a member of the larger Hospitals & Communities Integrated Services (HCIS) health care team and as a member of a specific MHSU multi-disciplinary team whose purpose is to ensure that persons experiencing substance use problems/disorders or concurrent substance use and mental health problems have access to timely, responsive, evidence based treatment and clinical supports across the continuum of available services. The Substance Use Worker provides assessment, treatment, service coordination, and as required, urgent response to clients who may also have serious functional impairment in the domains of physical health and personal, family, financial, occupational, and social life. The Substance Use Worker functions as a primary clinician utilizing a variety of specialized treatment modalities/therapies for individuals, groups of clients and/or their families.

Shift types are days and shift times are from 08:30 to 17:54; 09:00 to 17:00 hours.

The Complex Care Housing program opens January 16, 2023, this is a brand new program and it is an opportunity for the team to help develop the roles and provide feedback for opportunities for improvement.

Education, Training and Experience:

Bachelor degree from an accredited educational institution in an Allied Health, Behavioural, or Social Science field relevant to the position.

Two years’ recent related experience in an alcohol and drug treatment environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current valid B.C. driver’s license.
