The ABB Measurement & Analytics plant in Québec is the world leader in the field of spectroscopy. Our Contract Engineering Department is Canada’s largest supplier of space optical sensors used for greenhouse gas emissions monitoring and weather forecasting worldwide, among things. Our factory is also recognized for its expertise in the development and manufacture of various products that meet several industrial analysis needs on a daily basis.

By joining one of the largest engineering departments in Québec, you will actively contribute to the projects of our clients, as well as to the research and development of our technology. You will be part of a dynamic and stimulating multidisciplinary team.

You will be in charge of the mechanical aspects associated with the design of measuring instruments within the Measurement and Analytics business unit, in Québec (Canada). Reporting to the opto-mechanical group, you will be responsible for the mechanical aspects related to the design, manufacture and commissioning of several product development projects to ensure the successful delivery, on time, within budget, and in accordance with the quality and safety guidelines.

The engineer we seek has a well-developed physical sense, autonomy, ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, experience in research and development for the design of new products.

Your responsibilities
  • Design the instruments in conformity with the requirements, costs, and deadlines.
  • Select and optimize the manufacturing processes (CNC machining, molding, folding, 3-D printing, and others).
  • Verify and seal the plans in accordance with the geometric tolerance standards.
  • Rigorously document the mechanical design, establish tolerance budgets and the inspection plans.
  • Supervise the assembly, commission and establish the prototype test plans.
  • Participate in the multidisciplinary design reviews and give masterful presentations to clients at critical milestones.
  • Actively participate in the planning tasks and technical proposals (estimation).
  • Support production as needed.
Your background
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5 to 10 years of experience in the development of complex systems, knowledge in optical systems an asset.
  • Knowledge of the materials, mechanical manufacturing processes, heat treatments, and surface treatments.
  • Knowledge of the principles of geometric tolerancing.
  • Knowledge of structural and thermal finite element analysis (FEA) an asset.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing standards of devices under high pressure (ASME) or in an explosive environment (ATEX) an asset.
  • Experience in designing aerospace instruments and/or instruments intended for harsh environments an asset.
  • Member of the OIQ.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) and written and spoken communication skills.
