About the Calgary Stampede

The Calgary Stampede Foundation (CSF) develops motivated and engaged young Calgarians, empowered to do amazing things, by providing places and programs in which youth can thrive. The Foundation develops a generation of young people with the skills, confidence and strength that makes our communities stronger.

Position Summary

The Manager of the Young Canadians School of Performing Arts (YC) is a member of the Youth Achievement team responsible to lead and direct the learning program of the Young Canadians School. The YC program, comprised of 130 dedicated youth ages 8 – 21, is a performance training program focused on dance, voice and acting. The School fosters performance, creation, interpersonal and technical skills focused on building strong youth and stronger community.

Roles and Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversite and direction of the YC School including: team development, curriculum development, artistic direction, planning and scheduling
  • Develop and maintain a collegial, safe, student-centered culture built on the principles of care, nurture, respect, and excellence
  • Proactively manage YC assets, including annual and three year budgets, performance equipment, facility usage and intellectual property
  • Employ student-centered educational models to facilitate the enrichment, development, and education of program members in alignment with CSF strategic goals
  • Act as an ambassador of TYC School within the Calgary community and abroad. This includes periodically appearing in media and publicly as a positive ambassador of the program
  • Actively participate on the Youth Achievement Managers team contributing to the overall success of all CSF youth programs including, safety and wellness practices, educational model development and implementation, campus activation and community engagement

Qualifications and Education Requirements

The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities and will hold the following qualifications:

  • Experience working with youth; experience as a professional artist or arts educator; experience managing budgets and assets
  • Practical and technical knowledge/skill: The principles of performance school management and organization – i.e., scheduling, teacher recruitment, lesson planning
  • Understanding of performance production cycle
  • Communicating and influencing skills: ability to interact positively with parents and members; ability to work collaboratively with senior team members and contractors; ability to influence teaching approach and maintain alignment of Foundation education approach
  • Problem solving: pre-disposed to responding to challenges with a solutions oriented approach
