Reporting to the Chief Operational Officer, the Manager of People and Culture collaborates with employees at all levels to implement best practice Human Resources. They are responsible for advising on the policies, procedures, and strategy that will best align the corporate culture and business strategy. In collaboration with organizational leadership, they develop, execute, and champion Human Resources initiatives that support the organizational goals. They act as support to all employees, at all levels.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Provide expertise and recommendation on HR strategy in all functions including (but not limited to) employee relations, personnel recruitment, selection and retention, compensation and incentive management, talent mapping, performance evaluations, training and development, occupational health and safety.
  • Act as an impartial support resource to all employees regarding issues or concerns that cannot be handled by a direct supervisor or manager.
  • Work with supervisors/managers to develop new or changes to existing policies and procedures to be put forward to executive management.
  • Prepare new hire packages and conduct orientation for new employees.
  • Advise supervisors/management on correct terminations procedures.
  • Responsible for supporting and coaching managers in disciplinary and termination processes.
  • Prepare disciplinary and termination paperwork.
  • Recognize the need for new company policy and procedures or if changes are required for existing ones.
  • Ensure company policy and procedures are compliance with all applicable legislation.
  • Represent a neutral, unbiased party to mediate any employee concerns or disputes.
  • Co-ordinate employee performance and appraisal programs.
  • Advise Supervisors/Managers with personnel concerns and issues in keeping with Labour Standards and Human Rights.
  • Notify managers of upcoming employee birthdays and work anniversaries.
  • Facilitate employee service award program.
  • Maintain employment files for all employees.
  • Prepare management reports relating to headcount, external wage statistics and other ad hoc reports as requested from time to time.
  • Benefits Administration for healthcare plans, benefit package, and payroll deduction RRSP programs.
  • Administer and coach supervisors/managers to implement return to work programs for injured or ill employees, relating to WCB claims. Act as a liaison between employee/WCB for return to work programs and assessments.
  • Full cycle recruitment, including develop current job description, screening of job applicants, set up interviews, conduct reference checks, complete all onboarding requirements.
  • Work with staffing agencies to establish terms of use.
  • Administer employee referral program.
  • Conduct exit interviews and relay information to applicable manager.
  • Coach supervisors/managers on appropriate interview questions.
  • Prepare employment contracts for new hires as per discussed and directed by hiring manager.
  • Research and prepare occupational classifications, job descriptions, salary scales and competency appraisal measures and systems.
  • Work with management to ensure salaries are aligned with job requirements/position profiles.
  • Investigate subsidy, grant, and incentive programs, determine qualifications and apply.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in Human Resources at a senior level
  • Strong recruiting and demonstrated ability to improve talent acquisition strategies
  • Demonstrated expertise training managers and employees
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking and communications skills
  • Attention to detail and good judgement
