Our expectations:

Reporting to the Director, Optimization – Distribution, the Manager, Continuous Improvement – Distribution is based in Boucherville. The Manager’s duties include day-to-day direction of a team of continuous improvement specialists with the mandate of leading continuous improvement within the Canadian distribution network of Lowe’s Canada. This network includes distribution centers for hardware, appliances, lumber, and building materials located across the country. It is composed of mezzanine picking systems, traditional operations, and semi-automated distribution. The main distribution hubs are in the Montreal, Toronto, and Calgary areas. The incumbent’s broader responsibilities include project management, business analysis, budgeting support, facility layout, product flow, and change management. Located mainly in our Boucherville head office, the role also includes travel to Ontario (monthly) and to Alberta (occasionally).

Your role:
  • Drive detailed project planning to ensure successful management of process improvement projects
  • Actively participate in the identification and prioritization of initiatives to improve distribution operations
  • Collaborate closely with the regional directors of the distribution centers in each region and their teams
  • Interact and collaborate with functional groups (Distribution, Transportation, Supply Chain, Store Operations, Merchandising) to identify, research, analyze, and resolve complex problems; initiatives require cross-functional coordination, communication, influence, and negotiation
  • Generate added value through the principles of continuous improvement and integrate best practices in the distribution industry
  • Monitor and update the engineered labor standards program in distribution centers.
  • Ensure sound change management across all projects
  • Ensure sharing of best practices between regions
  • Recommend strategies and tactics to develop a global culture of continuous improvement across the network

The qualifications we are looking for:
  • Bachelor’s / master’s degree in industrial engineering, business administration (operations, logistics, supply chain) or a related field (required)
  • PRINCIPAL: At least 4 years of experience in a similar role in the distribution sector.
  • PRINCIPAL: At least 7 years of experience in a role with progressive responsibilities in the distribution, logistics or transport sectors.
  • Experience in the retail industry, within a large national distributor or transport / logistics service provider (an asset).
  • Experience and expertise in multiple aspects of the Distribution; warehouse automation (RF Guns, voice picking, conveyors, etc.), inventory management/planning, warehouse layout design & equipment, distribution network capacity planning and project/capital justification.
  • Experience in time and motion studies, standards development and implementation (an asset)
  • Stakeholder management skills; demonstrated ability to connect with stakeholders and build collaborative processes, as well as mobilize, coach and empower peers and other functional leaders by exerting influence
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; proactive nature and willingness to challenge existing processes and propose new solutions
  • Project management skills; demonstrated ability to lead complex distribution projects from inception to implementation; proven track record of successful system warehouse implementation, reorganization or logistics network implementations involving change management
  • Communication skills; demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate with all levels of the organization and with every business unit to persuade and lead others in challenging situations, as well as platform skills for training delivery and group presentations
  • Knowledge of the operating principles of a warehouse management system
  • Demonstrated experience in managing technical resources
  • Knowledge and proficiency in financial metrics and planning
  • Knowledge of retail supply chain concepts
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, PowerPoint, Excel and Access
  • Good organization and planning skills, as well as analytical and conflict resolution skills
  • Spoken and written bilingualism (French and English)
  • Ability to travel (domestic and occasionally to the United States) around 15% of the time (required)
