We are seeking an entrepreneurial leader to guide all aspects of our Advanced Development function. You will lead a team of skilled systems engineers, roboticists, and controls engineers, responsible for the development of GRMT’s next generation of actuation solutions. Reporting to the VP, Technology, you will have a key role in developing technology strategies that align with customers’ needs and you will support your team in innovating technical solutions that meet those needs. You will identify technologies, capabilities, and competencies required for our future products and evaluate the most effective way of obtaining those through internal development, partnering, or acquisition.

What You Will Do In Your Role

• Lead, manage, and mentor a growing team of systems engineers, roboticists, embedded systems, and controls engineers on next-generation R&D of actuators for robotics and other markets. Developing people is not just one more thing to do, it is your primary responsibility.
• Build new capabilities in firmware, power electronics, and IoT
• Foster a team culture that innovates and experiments quickly to elevate technologies from idea to fully functional concept prototypes
• Develop management systems and processes for fast and agile technology, directed at our markets and applications central to our strategy
• Working with the VP, Technology, create and maintain technology roadmap with a 3 to 5 year outlook
• Continuously evaluate our approach to technology: should we develop internally, partner, or acquire?

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or Engineering Physics
• 15+ years experience in high tech R&D
• Significant mechatronics engineering experience
• Significant embedded systems firmware and hardware experience
• At least 5 years experience leading technical teams
• Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills
• Highly flexible and adaptable; demonstrated success in dynamic, fast changing environments
• Strong entrepreneurial and continuous improvement mindset
• Exemplary change leadership, influencing, and organization skills
• Excellent collaborator - able to take different approaches as appropriate to the situation and the people involved
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
• Able and willing to travel internationally, up to 10% of the time

What Will Put You Ahead

• Strong knowledge on electric motors, gearboxes, and/or electric actuators
• Background in robotics or industrial automation
