This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) practices within the LPN Act and Regulations, LPN Code of Ethics, and the LPN Standards of Practice. The LPN functions within the Collaborative Care Delivery Model and is accountable for the provision of holistic and comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families, and groups. The LPN applies practical nursing theory in the assessment of patients and collaborates in the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation and revision of the nursing care plan for the patient.

Qualifications
  • Registered with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN)
  • CPR Certification or BCLS – C
  • Computer experience (or willingness to obtain)
  • One year Mental Health & Addictions experience in the past five years
    • If there are no candidates with one year experience, candidates with six months Mental Health & Addictions experience in the past five years will be evaluated;
    • If there are no candidates with six months experience, candidates with no experience will be evaluated.
  • Successful completion of Promoting Recovery in Mental Health through the RNPDC within two years of hire
  • Strong current physical and psychosocial assessment skills
  • Commitment to care planning/discharge planning
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and also effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to self-learning and continuous professional development
  • Previous work experience in psychiatric nursing preferred
  • Evidence of recent education/courses relevant to psychiatric mental health nursing preferred
  • Commitment to maintain and protect patient, client, and personal safety on an ongoing basis
  • Commitment to confidentiality and privacy of NSHA patients and clients
  • Annually access the training and education on patient, client and personal safety made available by NSHA
  • The successful applicant will have a commitment to the mission and values of the Nova Scotia Health Authority
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

Salary Information

Licensed Practical Nurse (HTH014)

$28.33 - $30.42 hourly
