Legal Assistant

The Opportunity:

The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a Legal Assistant. The Legal Assistant will assist the City Solicitor with providing quality legal services to the City of Red Deer Administration and City Council.

As our preferred candidate, you will have:

• Two-year Legal Assistant diploma from a recognized institution
• Minimum of three years relevant experience (either in a private law firm or in an in-house legal department). Experience in a municipal legal environment preferred.
• Considerable knowledge of legal terminology
• Commissioner for Oaths or ability to obtain commission
• Advanced skills in the following areas are required:
• Verbal and written communication
• Accurate typing, word processing and transcription skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook, dictation equipment
• Ability to work with minimum supervision
• Working knowledge of municipal legislation, bylaws, and rules of order and procedural fairness and the ability to interpret same preferred.
• Ability to complete detailed tasks with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency, while dealing with competing priorities and interruptions.
• Demonstrated ability to strictly maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
• Ability to take initiative and manage diverse subject matter.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and courteously and to provide quality customer service when dealing with elected City officials, senior management, staff, and the general public.
• Demonstrated proficiency at working independently using initiative to prioritize responsibilities and workload efficiently.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a variety of tasks at the same time and meet deadlines consistently.
• Proven ability to recognize, understand and contribute to team goals and objectives.

Remuneration:

$34.05 to $35.84 per hour

Hours of Work:

75 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday.
