The current incumbent candidate for this role will be groomed and supported to transition into the role of Chief Estimator following an indeterminate period in which they will become fully acquainted with Coldbox’s business model, business development/estimating/sales and procurement processes, and demonstrate appropriate technical competence and leadership capability.


We are currently seeking an experienced Lead Estimator to join our rapidly growing company in Burlington, Ontario


Key Purpose


The Lead Estimator will help build, oversee, and participate in the success of the estimating team. A proven collaborator with strong relationship building skills and a successful track record design-build general contracting, you are a driven, passionate professional who is looking for an opportunity to lead your own team, contribute as an important member of the leadership team, and be a direct contributor to the continued growth and success of the organization.


Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead and manage the estimating team
  • Serve as lead estimator on key accounts and projects and provide oversight of departmental estimates and proposals, including detailed review of others’ work.
  • In collaboration with our business development and sales team: accept, review and respond to all request for proposals, quotations, pre-qualifications and preliminary budgets as requested
  • Build, train, develop, coach/mentor and manage the estimating team
  • Propose and approve potential bid strategies, constructability requirements and advantages or innovations to increase project win success.
  • Maintain and communicate data on construction and material cost trends affecting project costs.
  • Work with the president and leadership team to develop and execute on the strategic plan.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships internally and externally.
  • Work with and support the Project Delivery Team on procurement policy, strategy and execution
  • Collaborate with other leadership team members to ensure alignment across departments
  • Review and refine performance metrics for the estimating team.
  • Develop/Maintain effective estimating systems, processes, and tools to ensure a consistent approach to estimating.
  • Actively participate in industry and client relations to enhance company image.

Key Knowledge and Skills


This role requires a driven, hands-on estimation professional who is a strong communicator and collaborator, a proven effective negotiator, attentive to accuracy and details, who aspires to a leadership role within a dynamic, growing organization. Key requirements and attributes include:


  • Proficient knowledge in Site Development, Building Envelope and M&E Systems for ICI facilities
  • Previous experience estimating completed projects ranging in cost from $250,000 to $75 million.
  • Previous experience delivering projects using CCA 5a, CCA 5b, CCDC 2, CCDC 3 and CCDC 14 Prime Contracts
  • Previous experience using CCA 1 & CCA 17 Sub-Contracts
  • Proficiency in the use of construction estimating software such as PlanSwift and project management software (Procore preferred), as well as Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency in organizing construction data using the most recent Master Format.
  • PQS designation is considered an asset
  • Gold Seal Certification is considered an asset
  • French bilingual is considered an asset
  • National and international experience considered an asset

Educationand ExperienceRequirements:


  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the role of Senior Estimator and/orLeadEstimator within a Design-Build General Contracting (GC) company
  • Environmentally Controlled Building, Warehousing, and Food Processing Plant experience considered definite assets.
