Position: Ecological Landscape Technician

Please note, we are a nonsmoking company and our policy allows smoke breaks only during the daily unpaid lunch break off site.

Job Summary:

Helping Nature Heal Inc. is seeking Restorative Landscape Technicians who live in the Bridgewater area or are willing to relocate. The successful candidate will work on new and existing projects on the South Shore of Nova Scotia as well as projects that may require travel as far as P.E.I, New Brunswick and Cape Breton. S/he must be familiar with, or willing to learn, and consistently implement HNH’s unique methods.

Reporting directly to the Team Leader.

Responsibilities:

  • Arrive at work prepared, on time and with all personal equipment in good working order
  • Maintain efficiency & a high quality of work in various weather conditions
  • Operate a variety of landscaping equipment in a safe manner including chipper, whipper snippers, hedge trimmers etc. as well as standard hand tools
  • Plant and maintain residential, institutional, and commercial gardens
  • In the absence of a Team Leader, supervise other employees and ensure all policies are adhered to
  • Communicate with and support team members to get the job done
  • Take direction from Team Leaders and make needed changes in a timely manner
  • Provide support as needed to the nurseries & community events
  • Infrequent hardscaping (patios, walkways and walls)

Skills and Qualifications:

Mandatory

  • Knowledge of ecological (manual) landscape construction techniques and practices
  • Knowledge and awareness of climate change
  • Excellent communicator who is capable of receiving, and executing instructions
  • Ability to perform multiple job tasks efficiently while maintaining quality
  • Dependable worker with initiative and motivation
  • Capacity to learn quickly and retain information in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work respectfully with a team while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Physically fit, energetic, able to lift at least 50 lbs, and able to work in diverse weather conditions
  • Flexible schedule, with an ability to travel

Assets

  • First aid and WHIMIS training preferred
  • Drivers licence
  • Chainsaw safety course
  • Education in a related field
  • Knowledge of native plants

Location:

Our home base is in Bridgewater Nova Scotia and we work throughout the Maritimes (P.E.I, NB, NS, PQ)

Hours: 8-12h hrs/day for 4 days a week, averaging 35-50 hours per week depending on schedule and weather.

Compensation:

Wages start at $15/hr-$20/hr for a 3 month probation period after which an extended health benefits package, wage increase and further training options will become available based on performance.
