Hamilton or St. Catharines

WSP is currently seeking a Landfill and Waste Management Engineer to join our Central Ontario Environment group, located at our Hamilton or St. Catharines office. Reporting to the Team Lead, this position is responsible for working with waste management and landfill engineering project managers on our current waste management projects with clients based in Ontario, and nationally.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate alternate designs, procedures and criteria to solve waste management and landfill design challenges including leachate and gas management systems, storm water management systems, equipment, systems and/or structures;
• Write technical reports as well as design and operations reports and operations manuals to document engineering analysis;
• Planning, management and coordination of detailed waste management/landfill engineering and planning projects;
• Ensure environmental compliance with regulatory authorities, standards, regulations and codes;
• Conduct detailed feasibility studies for waste management projects with multi-disciplinary teams;
• Construction observation and administration to ensure adherence to environmental permits and regulations, design specification and customer requirements;
• Conduct on-site visits, complete site inspections and investigations, monitor and record contractor field installations;
• Other duties as assigned.
  

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; Masters degree an asset;
• 1-3 years of experience in waste management and landfill engineering design (civil/solid waste management);
• Engineer in Training or Professional engineer registered with the PEO;
• Direct experience in landfill and waste management engineering design and construction projects; post closure plans; landfill design, operations and maintenance plans and construction quality assurance;
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally;
• Contribute to the group with a positive attitude and the ability to work both in a team and independently;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access);
• Knowledge of CAD design and Civil 3D is considered an asset;
• Experience in compiling civil design and construction reports including design drawings and specifications;
• Experience in landfill gas monitoring and beneficial end-use;
• Experience with waste transfer station, compost facilities; materials recycling facilities and waste-to-energy an asset;
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities with defined deadlines;
• Ability to liaise with clients and prepare technical proposals and cost estimates.
