Based in Winnipeg, SMS Engineering is one of the largest consulting engineering firms between Toronto and Calgary providing innovative solutions to built environments. Our projects include the James Richardson International Air Terminal Building, Health Sciences Centre Women’s Hospital and the Red River College Innovation Centre.

Our integrated mechanical and electrical design team oversees hundreds of projects annually from the pre-development and planning stages through to design and contract administration featuring innovative solutions combined with sound engineering design.

To enable us to meet the needs of our growing market, we are hiring for the position of a Junior Electrical Designerwho will be responsible for supporting the general preparation of electrical designs, including lighting, power, voice/data, and systems for various projects.

Responsibilities

The key responsibility of the applicant will be the preparation of drawings including layouts, design notes, and specifications. As part of this responsibility, the candidate will be expected to be able to perform electrical calculations including lighting, electrical demand, fault currents, and voltage drops calculations.

Skills

The role requires a self-starter with the following skills:

· Experience with Revit and can edit and add information into a BIM model.

· Ability to collaborate with fellow employees, clients, contractors, and other design teams including coordinating meetings.

· Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment.

· Ability to interface with multiple engineering disciplines.

· Ability to work independently.

· Ability to meet deadlines and deliver quality and within budget.

· Strong written and oral communication skills.

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

· Ability to travel within Canada.

· Strong organizational and time management skills.

Qualifications

SMS Engineering provides on-the-job and structured training and mentorship. The following qualifications are a prerequisite for consideration:

· Qualifications leading to Engineer-in-Training through Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba (EGM) or Technologist through Certified Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba (CTTAM).
