About the Opportunity

Currently, Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer with 5 plus years of relevant consulting experience to join their team in Ottawa, Ontario.

As our Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer, you will work on projects in collaboration with our senior and intermediate engineering team to support our clients and to provide mentorship to our junior staff.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing exemplary service to Thurber’s clients;
  • Planning and coordinating geotechnical field investigations;
  • Coordinating and carrying out field inspection of construction works and material testing of geotechnical materials;
  • Preparing and writing proposals and technical reports;
  • Conducting geotechnical engineering analysis;
  • Managing project schedules and budgets;
  • Training and mentoring more junior staff and technicians; and,
  • Supporting and fostering a positive Safety culture and environment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this role, you will have 5 or more years of relevant consulting experience. You must be a Professional Engineer with PEO. Finally, you will have a valid class G Ontario driver’s license.

Your strong interpersonal skills will combine with your technical knowledge and experience to ensure your success as you learn and drive our projects forward within our dynamic working environment. You will work diligently towards completing deadlines while continuously providing relevant feedback and instructions to our team and relevant updates to our clients.

Finally, you will also have the following:

  • Completion of a Graduate Degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering;
  • A minimum of 5 years of consulting experience, preferably in the Ontario market;
  • Knowledge and working experience with applicable regulations, codes and guidelines (e.g. CHBDC, OBC, OPSS, CFEM);
  • Demonstrated project management skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Licensed member (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO); and,
  • Valid Class G driver’s license is required.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with City of Ottawa infrastructure and/or MTO pavement/foundation assignments;
  • Experience working with or managing multi-disciplinary project teams;
  • Construction inspection experience (e.g. testing and inspection of deep foundations); and,
  • Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset but is not mandatory.
