SUMMARY: Macdonald Youth Services requires an experienced Human Resources (HR) Consultant that is responsible for delivering HR best practices and HR solutions that support MYS.

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources Consultant supports and advises the Agency on operational Human Resources related issues. This position is responsible for the day-to-day requirements of all components of Human Resources including recruitment and selection, employee relations, labour relations, compliance, policy administration, performance management, disability management and training. Provides comprehensive full-cycle Human Resource support to employees, MYS programs, management and external stakeholders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: of the HR Consultant include, but are not limited to:

  • Coach and council managers by addressing issues related to HR challenges, employment standards and labour relations;
  • Coordinate and manage the processing of employee leave of absence cases, which includes administering Short Term (paid, unpaid sick leave), Long Term Disability claims, Worker’s Compensation claims, MPI, Service Canada Sick Leave Benefit. Educational and Personal Leaves on a case by case;
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and adherence to all applicable legislation, standards and guidelines;
  • Works with program areas, managers and Human Resources to develop new positions and position descriptions to meet program and organizational needs;
  • Full-cycle recruitment for the assigned service provisions;
  • Maintains HRIS system, trackers and other reports as needed;
  • Works with the HR Manager to obtain and maintain up to date information on wages and benefits available at comparable organizations;
  • Conducts workplace investigations and provides advice on appropriate outcomes and recommendations, while ensuring the completeness of the investigation file;
  • Develops and revises HR policies and procedures;
  • Participates in the implementation of the Agency and HR operating plans, goals and objectives;
  • Promotes and ensures that Human Resources are managed in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision, values, and policies of the Agency;
  • Actively participates in Human Resources initiatives and projects as time and resources permit;
  • May perform other HR functions as required.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Degree or Certificate in Human Resources Management;
  • 5 years experience in a Human Resources environment performing broad range of Human Resources functions
  • Knowledge of current employment practices, human rights legislation, employment standards code and collective agreements
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining a keen sense of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to professionally communicate both verbally and written with employees and external partners
  • Superior organizational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and work accurately with detailed information
  • Functions effectively as a team member, demonstrating emotional stability and objectivity when dealing with challenging/changing work environments;
  • Process facilitation and project management skills and experience

PREFERRED:

  • Experience working within a unionized environment is an asset
  • Prior experience in a not-for-profit human service and/or shift-staffed organization

SALARY RANGE: Dependent on qualifications. MYS offers a competitive benefit package and pension plan.

HOURS OF WORK:35 hours per week – Monday-Friday
