Job Description

The B.C. Wildlife Federation is BC’s leading conservation organization. The BCWF is accepting applications for a Fraser River estuary Field Crew Coordinator. In addition, we are hiring a Field Crew Supervisor and Field Crew Technicians positions for the Wetlands Workforce Fraser River Estuary Clean-up Project.

Role Details

This is a full-time, contracted position. Staff will be hired on a rolling basis from August until end of September 2021. End dates range from end-November to December 15, 2021. Start and end dates will be discussed with applicants at the time of interview.

The Field Crew Coordinator will meaningfully contribute to the health of wetlands in B.C. by supporting the field crew in coordinating and scheduling the removal sites, times and coordinating with stakeholders in the Fraser River estuaries. Other duties and responsibilities may be added throughout the work term, based on project needs.

Work conditions will primarily be indoors, the possibility of working from home will be discussed in the interview.

Core Responsibilities

  • Prepare maps for field crew using GIS software and GPS.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and project partners in order to secure site access.
  • Administrative tasks including data management.
  • Respectful interaction with members of the public, private landowners, representatives of partnering organizations and members of participating First Nations.
  • Import debris records into data system.
  • Other duties as directed by Fish Habitat Restoration and Education Coordinator and the Weltands Workforce Project Manager.

Competencies and Skills

  • Experiencewith GIS software, or other mapping applications
  • Experience using Microsoft Suite, in particular outlook, word and excel
  • Experience using GPS devices
  • Experience in garbage removal or shoreline clean-up is considered an asset
  • Experience with workplace safety procedures
  • Proven experience building a positive and engaging work culture
  • Experience with surveying, monitoring or data collection is an asset
  • Experience communicating with First Nations, local governments, and other government agencies is an asset
  • Experience with report writing considered an asset
  • Ability to be flexible in assigned duties as needed by the Project
  • Openness to learn new skills and tasks
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job and traverse outdoor spaces
  • Willing to travel extensively throughout the Lower Mainland
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully in a small team
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience working with First Nations and indigenous communities an asset
  • Knowledge of local area
  • A diploma or degree in relevant program is an asset
  • Class 4 or 5 driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Access to vehicle
