The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance. We are seeking a diligent and hard-working individual that has a passion for the Events industry and the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). Our Labourer team works work under the direction of the Director, PNE Maintenance & Facility Operations and are responsible for site maintenance, and setup/teardown of events. They will operate vehicles and tools/equipment in compliance with all health and safety requirements as determined by WorkSafeBC, and all other applicable legislation and company policies.

What will you do this year?*
In your role as an Assistant Manager, Facilities and Maintenance, your primary accountabilities will include:

  • Plan, organize, supervise, and review the work of a number of skilled, semi-skilled, and entry-level employees, involved in the setup and removal of event-related equipment (portable seating, concert chairs, hockey boards & glass, basketball floor, pipe & drape, fencing, garbage/recycling bins, picnic tables/benches, furniture, etc.).
  • Read and interpret work orders and coordinate/determine the appropriate charges by submitting timecards and timesheets to administrative staff.
  • Clean and maintain facilities and grounds before and after events.
  • Ensure work is completed within a specified timeline and communicate timeline challenges to supervisor(s).
  • Operate and lead employees in the operation of a variety of mobile mechanical equipment.
  • Supervise large staff groups for event set-up and the maintenance and cleanliness of the grounds, facilities and buildings.
  • Maintain effective relationships with supervisors, employees, and the public.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and maps.
  • Lead with a safety-first mindset and ensure all team members are working within Worksafe BC regulations.
  • Abide by corporate policies and reinforce corporate policies among all team members.
  • Provide staff with coaching and assist department managers with disciplinary issues and performance management as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What else?

  • Must have 3-5 years of previous experience supervising large teams, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must have a demonstrated track record of punctuality, regular attendance, adhering to corporate policies, and exhibiting a strong work ethic to drive departmental effectiveness.
  • Previous experience with task delegation and a history of productive, safe, and efficient work is required.
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills, along with an ability to coach and performance manage staff is required.
  • Must have excellent communication skills to foster effective relationships with staff, guests, and managers.
  • Basic computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, is required.
  • Previous technical work experience is an asset.
  • A valid 5th class BC Driver’s license and the ability to provide a clear and up-to-date Driver’s Abstract is required.
  • A valid Forklift Operators license is required.
  • Capable of working at heights and lifting heavy materials up to WCB restrictions.
  • Physically able to work in awkward positions.
  • Must have knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions in the construction trade.
  • The PNE has implemented a Proof of Vaccination policy and due to the requirements of this position, the successful candidate must provide proof of vaccination.
  • Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
