Working alongside its partners in law enforcement, family justices, health, the judiciary, criminal justice system and other stakeholders, the ministry has a direct or shared responsibility in all elements of the justice system in Alberta.

Role

As the Financial Analyst, you will be responsible for comprehensive financial analysis and reporting services for the Ministry of Justice and Solicitor General, which is comprised of the Department, Victims of Crime and Public Safety Fund, and the Human Rights Education and Multiculturalism Fund. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, you will work as part of a team responsible for the production of quarterly and annual financial statements, and the coordination of the year-end audit for the Ministry. You will ensure accuracy of financial transactions and balances through effective analysis and reconciliation, including identification and resolution of financial reporting issues.

You will also be responsible for a variety of financial reporting tasks, including:

  • Performing regular reviews of the Trial Balance for accuracy
  • Generating ad-hoc reports in both BPC and S4 modules of 1GX to identify accounting issues and support the integrity of financial data
  • Develop accurate, valid and timely working paper, notes and schedules required to prepare the quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Working with staff on other Finance teams and in program areas in preparing working schedules and deadlines to ensure information used by Senior Management to support decision making is provided in a timely manner


Critical thinking, strong analytical and advanced Excel skills, in combination with experience using 1GX finance modules, and sound professional judgment will enable you to succeed in this position.

Qualifications

University graduation in a Finance/ Accounting or related field plus 3 years related experience required, OR a related diploma plus 5 years directly related experience OR a Professional Accounting designation (CPA) and 1 year additional related experience.

Equivalency are: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


The following are required:

  • Experience with ERP system (e.g. 1GX).
  • Considerable experience in producing financial statements and working with auditors.


The following are the asset:

  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience developing communications, reports and/or presentations for senior leadership.

Salary

$2,613.91 to $3,428.61 bi-weekly. ($68,223.05 – $89,486.72 per year)

Hours of work are Monday-Friday from 8.15a.m. to 4.30p.m. (36.25 hours/week)
